9、 direction of the Packaging and Freight Containers Standards Committee. This Section is identical with the English text of ISO830-1981 “Freight containersTerminology” including Amendments1 and2 prepared by Technical Committee104, Freight containers, of the International Organization for Standardizat
10、ion (ISO). Terminology and conventions. The text of the international standard has been approved as suitable for publication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention is drawn especially to the
11、following. The comma has been used as a decimal marker. In British Standards it is current practice to use a full point on the baseline as the decimal marker. Wherever the words “International Standard” appear, relating to this standard, they should be read as “British Standard”. Other British Stand
12、ards giving information on freight containers are BS5073 “Guide to stowage of goods in freight containers” and BS5237 “Specification for lifting twistlocks”. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for thei

22、ntainer types (see Table 1) are grouped, and groups are sub-divided according to the following concepts: mode of transport, categories of cargo, and the physical characteristics of the container. Thus: a) It is assumed that containers are intended for use in any or all of the surface modes of transp
23、ort, i.e.road, rail and sea, unless otherwise stated. Only in the case of containers primarily intended for transport by air (air mode containers, see4.1.3) is any specific reference made to the mode of transport when classifying ISO types of containers. b) The main classification is made in terms o
24、f the type of cargo for which a container is primarily intended. General cargo containers (see4.1.1) include those containers which are not specifically or primarily intended for a particular category of cargo.
