Scope1.1 This specification covers requirements for glass gradu-ated cylinders for precision and general purpose grades suitablefor la

3、boratory purposes.1.1.1 Class AEach cylinder of precision grade shall bemarked with the letter “A to signify compliance with appli-cable construction and accuracy requirements. Cylinders maybe marked with an identification number (serial number) at theoption of the manufacturer.1.1.2 Class BGeneral

4、purpose cylinders are of the samebasic design as Class A cylinders. However, volumetric toler-ances for Class B cylinders shall be within twice the specifiedrange allowed for Class A cylinders. These cylinders need notbe marked with their class designation.1.1.3 Product with a stated capacity not li

5、sted in thisstandard may be specified in class A tolerance when productconforms to the tolerance range of the next smaller volumetricstandard product listed in Table 1.2. Classification3.1 Cylinders shall be in the following styles:3.1.1 Style I Beaded lip with pour spout,3.1.2 Style IIGround standard taper () neck, or3.1.3 Style IIIBeaded lip

8、 with pour spout and reinforcingbead near top.4. General Requirements4.1 Style I cylinders shall be calibrated either “to deliveror“ to contain. Style II and Style III cylinders shall becalibrated“ to contain. The cylinders shall be calibrated at20C and the volumetric tolerances shall be in accordan

(See Practice E 542 for calibration definitions andprocedures.)4.1.1 Cylinders shall be of borosilicate glass conforming tothe requirements for Type I, Class A of Specification E 438.4.2 ShapeCylinders shall be of one piece consisting ingeneral of a top, a graduated portion of unifor

10、m diameter anda base. The shape shall permit complete emptying and thor-ough cleaning. The pour-out of Style I, in sizes of 1000 mL andbelow, shall be located in a vertical plane bisecting within 65one of the corners on the hexagonal base. For sizes 2000 mLand above, the pour-out shall bisect within

11、 65 the center ofone of the flat section or one of the corners of the base. Thepour-out of Style III shall not protrude beyond the glassreinforcing bead with construction such that, upon falling, thebead shall strike a flat surface before the pour-out or lip.4.2.1 BaseThe base shall be hexagonal and

12、 the construc-tion shall be such that the empty cylinder (without stopper forStyle II), in capacities above 10 mL, shall stand on a surfaceinclined 15 with the horizontal and, in capacities of 10 mL orless, shall stand on a surface inclined 10 with the horizontal.4.3 DimensionsThe dimensions shall b

13、e as shown inTable 1 The glass stoppers of Style II shall conform toSpecification E 675.4.4 Graduation MarkingsGraduation markings shall besharply defined lines of uniform width not more than 0.4 mm.Graduation markings shall be perpendicular to the vertical axisof the cylinder and parallel to each o

17、ass; or by application ofa stain which is fired into the glass without etching; or byapplication of enamel fired into the glass without etching; or byapplication of an enamel which is fired onto a vertical coloredetched band which has been fired into the glass. Style III shallhave graduation marking

18、s etched through a vertical red coloredband fired into the glass. The value of all main graduationsshall be suitably inscribed in Arabic numerals directly abovethe line referenced. Subdivision lines may be omitted betweenthe base of the cylinder and the first numbered line.4.5 Length of Graduation L

19、ines:4.5.1 Class A:4.5.1.1 The length of the short lines shall be approximatelybut not less than 50 % of the circumference of the cylinder.4.5.1.2 The length of the medium lines shall be approxi-mately 65 % of the circumference of the cylinder and shallextend symmetrically at each end beyond the end

20、 of the shortlines.4.5.1.3 The long lines shall extend completely around thecircumference of the cylinder, but a gap, not exceeding 10 % ofthe circumference, may be permitted.4.5.2 Class B:4.5.2.1 The length of the short lines shall not be less than10 % and not more than 20 % of the circumference of

21、 thecylinder.4.5.2.2 The length of the medium lines shall be approxi-mately 1.5 times the length of the short lines and shall extendsymmetrically at each end beyond the end of the short lines.4.5.2.3 The long lines shall extend completely around thecircumference of the cylinder, but a gap, not excee

22、ding 10 % ofthe circumference, may be permitted.4.6 Identification MarkingsEach graduated cylinder shallbe permanently and legibly marked with the manufacturersname or trademark, the capacity and the temperature ofcalibration (20C). Style I and Style II shall be marked either“To Deliver (TD) or“ To

23、Contain (TC) and Style III shall bemarked “To Contain (TC). Optionally, cylinders may beadditionally marked with the international symbol“ EX for“To Deliver or “IN for“ To Contain.5.
