SCOPE 1.1 Scape. This specification covers the perf
2、ormance and acceptance requirements for a self-powered fan unit and transport case for use with radiant type, non-electrical powered tent heaters, to distribute heated air in military tents (see 6.1). 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 General. The documents listed in this section are specified in sections
3、 3 and 4 of this specification. This section does not include documents cited in other sections of this f specification or recommended for additional information or as examples. While every effort has been made to ensure the completeness of this list, document users are cautioned that they must meet
4、 all specified requirements documents cited in sections 3 and 4 of this specification, whether or not they are listed. 2.2 Goveniment. 2.2.1 S3mckds. 9、 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Ehade . When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to a first article inspection in accordance with 4.1.1. 3.2 Conformance. Items Mshed under this specification shall be subjected to conformance inspection in accordance with 4.1.2. 3.3 ODeratinp. 3.3.1 . The fan unit
10、shall not require, nor contain, any user interface device to regulate the operation of the unit. 3.3.2 Intenial power system. The fan Unit shall contain an internal power supply system that operates silently, contains no moving parts, and requires no adjustments for operation. The intemal power syst
11、em shall provide all necessary power to operate the fan unit fiom conversion of heat energy from the heater surface. No external power source shall be required. The power system shall require no recharging, refueling, or replacement. 3.3.3 Air. The self-powered fan unit shall produce a downward air
12、flow within five minutes of being placed on the surface of an operating tent heater. The Came and handle of the fan unit shall remain sufficiently cool to allow safe handling and removal Com an operating hea
14、ter Without the need for gloves. 3.3.5 . All components of the fan unit shall be designed and constructed to operate on the surface of a standard Army tent heater, which is operating at full firing rate, without damage to the fan unit components. 3.3.6 ILchtdQ. The fan unit shall be capable of demon
15、strating a Mean Time Between Essential Function Failure (MTBEFF) of at least 560 operational hours with 80% confidence. If a motor is used to operate the fan, it shall have a minimum average life rating of 4,000 hours. 3.3.7 The fan unit shall perform in all conditions of operation in a safe manner.
16、 3.3.7.1 53mpdgsedees, There shall be no sharp edges that may cause injury to users. 3.3.7.2 Movino puts . All moving parts shall be properly enclosed to prevent injury to operators. Guards shall cover the fan area to prevent injury by accidental insertion of fingers or foreign objects larger than 0
17、.75 inches in diameter. 3.3.7.3 tMktghM. A safety label stating “CAUTION: ROTATING FAN” shall be placed in an easily readable location on the fan unit. 3.4. Support or ownershii, requirements. 3.4.1 Wei. The total weight of the fan unit shall not exceed 15 pounds. The total weight of the transport c
18、ase shall not exceed 10 pounds. 3.4.2 Handles. The fan unit and case shall be equipped With a carrying handle which is rounded for bare-handed use and is large enough to accommodate operators wearing standard military cold weather gloves (NSN 8415-01-310-7338). 3 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo repr

The fan unit, when confgured inside the transport storage case, shall be capable of being transported as loose cargo, carried on ground vehicles as unrestrained cargo, and survive an accidental drop without damag
20、e to the unit. 3.4.3.1 vibration. The fan unit shall survive vibrations encountered during basic transportation. 3.4.3.2 shock. The fan unit shall survive accidental drops and banging encountered during basic transportation. 3.4.4 Maintenance . The only operator maintenance required shall be Prevent
21、ive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS). 3.4.5 * . The fan unit shall have a nameplate marked with the National Stock Number, the contract number, and the manufacturers name and part number. 3.5.1 SalLfig. The fan unit and transport case shall operate properly after exposure to a sait fog environ
22、ment. 3.5.2 Wind/rain . The fan unit shall operate properly afer being subjected to wind/rain while configured inside the transport storage case. The transport case shall be weather tight. 3.5.3 Storage. The fan unit shall be capable of withstanding storage temperatures of 160F and -60F without degr
23、adation of perfonnance. The fan unit shall be capable of being placed on an operating heater directly from cold storage without damage or degradation of performance. 3.5.4 . The fan unit shall be capable of operating in surrounding ambient temperatures of at least 100 OF. 3.6 Interfaceande-. 3.6.1 D
24、imensions . The dimensions of the fan unit shall be no greater than shown in figure 1 to ensure proper interface with Army tent heaters.
