3、tion of the balance point of an arrowassembly for use with an archery bow.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.2. Terminol
4、ogy2.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:2.1.1 Archery Trade Association (ATA), n the archeryindustry manufacturers organization that has originated somestandardized terms and configurations that are accepted andused universally.2.1.2 ATA actual arrow length, nthe length dimensionfrom t
5、he bottom of the nock slot forward to a designated pointnear the front or leading end of the arrow shaft. The designatedpoint varies to accommodate the different designs because ofthe differences in arrow point design and attachment.2.1.2.1 For arrows incorporating interchangeable point sys-tem inse
6、rts and other point or adaptor types that insert into theopen forward end of the arrow shaft, the designated point is thefront end of the arrow shaft, often referred to as the “cutlength” (Fig. 1).2.1.2.2 For arrows having the front end of the shaft taperedor swaged, the designated point is the most
7、 forward extensionof the full diameter of the shaft (Fig. 2).2.1.2.3 For arrows incorporating outserts, the designatedpoint is34 in. (19 mm) forward of the rearward end of theoutsert (Fig. 3).2.1.2.4 For arrows using heads that have integral cylindricalsockets incorporated within the basic head conf
8、iguration, thedesignated point is the rearward end of the socket (Fig. 4).2.1.3 arrow point, na general term used to describe anypoint or head attached to the front end of an arrow.2.1.4 balance point, nthat location along the length of thearrow which, when positioned over a knife edge, will result
9、inthe arrow being in a perfectly balanced condition. It is thelongitudinal location of the center of gravity of the arrowassembly.2.1.5 front of center (FOC), nfor good flightcharacteristics, the balance point or center of gravity of anarrow assembly must be located at some position forward ofthe lo
10、ngitudinal dimensional center of the arrow. The FOCdistance is not a fixed dimension. It can vary with the design ofthe arrow assembly and its components. It is also not neces-sarily a precise dimension since satisfactory arrow flight can beachieved despite minor variations of this factor. Its locat
11、ion isdetermined by measurement from the longitudinal dimensionalcenter of the ATA actual arrow length, and it is expressed by apercentage figure related to the length of the arrow and notedas FOC. To reference typical FOC locations see 3.4.1.2.1.6 insert, na machined or molded component, usuallywit
12、h a flange on the leading end, that is bonded into the frontend of the arrow shaft. The insert can have an internal threadto accept the threaded shank of an arrow point. The insert canalso have a tapered forward extension to permit mounting anarrow point with a tapered socket. The majority of arrowa
13、ssemblies are fitted with an insert of the first type to permit thearrow point to be interchanged very readily.2.1.7 integral socket arrow points, nmany arrow points,particularly those used on target or field arrows and includingsome hunting arrow heads, have integral sockets incorporatedinto the ar
14、row point itself in order to accept the forward end ofthe arrow shaft. Arrows using points of these types requirespecial consideration when determining the standard ATAarrow length and method of establishing the FOC distance ofthe center of gravity or balance point of the arrow assembly.2.1.8 nock s
