1、MILITARY SPECIFICATION PASSIVATOR COMPOUND, NAVY BOILER This specification is approved for use within the Naval Sea Systems Command, Department of the Navy, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers a uniform

2、mixture containing essentially dust free, granular sodium nitrite, monosodium phosphate and disodium phosphate. In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein (e

15、xcept for associated detail specifications, specification sheets or MS standards), the text of this specification shall take precedence. Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composit

16、ion. The nominal composition of the passivator is 50 percent sodium nitrite (NaN02), 25 percent monosodium phosphate (NaH2P04.H20) and 25 percent disodium phosphate (Na2H?Ok), 3.1.1 Sodium nitrite. The sodium nitrite used in the passivator shall have an assay of not less than 97 percent. The passiva

17、tor shall contain not less than 44.0 percent nor more than 54.0 percent sodium nitrite when tested as specified in 4.3.1. 3.1.2 pH. The pH shall be 6.6 k 0.3 when tested as specified in 4.3.2. 3.1.3 Total phosphoric anhydride (P205). The total phosphoric anhydride (P206) shall be not less than 24.7

18、percent nor more than 25.7 percent when tested as specified in 4.3.3. 3.1.4 Insoluble matter. The insoluble matter shall be not more than 0.25 percent when tested as specified in 4.3.4. 3.2 Material safety data sheet. The contracting activity shall be provided a material safety data sheet (MSDS) at

19、the time of contract award. The MSDS shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of FED-STD-313 and 29 CFR 1910.1200, Hazard Communication. When FED-STD-313 is at variance with the CFR, 29 CFR 1910.1200 shall take precedence, modify and supplement FED-STD-313. The MSDS shall be included wi

20、th each shipment of the material covered by this specification (see 6.3). 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified her

21、ein. Except as otherwise speci- fied in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the i

22、nspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items must meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. a part of the contractors overall inspection system

23、 or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of assuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the The inspection set forth in this specif

25、rnment to acceptance of defective material. 4.2 Quality conformance inspection. 4.2.1 E. A lot shall consist of not more than 20,000 pounds of passi- vator, or 1 days production, whichever is smaller, 4.2.2 Examination of filled containers. A random sample of filled containers, taken from each lot i

26、n accordance with MIL-STD-105 at inspection level I and acceptable quality level of 2.5 percent defective, shall be examined to verify compliance with all stipulations of this specification regarding fill, closure, marking and any other requirements not involving tests. for evidence of leakage and f

In addition, representative samples of the ingredients used in fulfilling each c

30、ontract or order shall be taken as follows: each of sodium nitrite (NaN2), monosodium phosphate (NaH2P04.H20) and disodium phosphate (Na2HP04) placed in individual containers and marked with a lot number and date sampled. Sodium nitrite shall be tested as follows. 4.3.1.1 Reagents, (a) Sulfamic acid, purified - The sulfamic acid shall be purified as follows: Dissolve 125 grams of sulfamic ac

33、id in 300 grams of water previously heated to 70 degrees Celsius (OC). Filter three times. With consequent lowering of the temperature, discard the material which crystalllzes from the solution. Cool the filtrate rapidly in an ice-salt mixture and let stand for 20 minutes. Remove the crystals thus f

(c) Potassium bromide - Saturated solution. 4.3.1.2 Apparatus. pH meter, laboratory type with millivolt and polarizing current Silver billet electrode. Platinum electrode. Buret, 50-milliliter (mL)

Beaker, 400-mL capacity. Ice-water bath. 4.3.1.3 Procedure. Dissolve to a 20-gram sample of the passivator (wei

37、ghed to the nearest milligram) in 700 to 800 mL of distilled water (pH of 6.6 to 7.2) in a 1000-mL volumetric flask. mix. Transfer the sulfamic acid to a 400-mL beaker and dissolve in 100 mL of cool water (25OC or less). Add 15 mL of the potassium bromide solution. Cool to 15OC in an ice water bath.

38、 Cool the sulfuric acid solution in the ice water bath. Connect the silver billet electrode with a polarizing jumper to the input jack of the pH meter.
