5、ION This specification covers performance and quality requirements for paint finish on metallic components exposed to high operating temperatures up to and including worst-case exhaust aftertreatment regeneration conditions. Specific examples include painted exhaust stanchions which may or may not b
6、e designed to carry exhaust gas as well as act as support structures and can see temperatures as high as 650C (1200F) at the inlet. Two types of heat-resistant finishes are described in this specification: Type 1 for maximum operating temperatures to 1000F (538C) Type 2 for maximum operating tempera
7、tures to 1200F (650C) 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers finish classification, pre-paint preparation, dry film properties, test methods, heat and corrosion resistance evaluation, quality requirements, source approval, designation on drawings, and shipping requirements. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Subs
8、tances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise stated, the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following specifications,

OCTOBER 2010 Page 2 of 6 4.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Finish Classification Class of finish of painted parts shall be specified on the Engineering drawing. Painted parts shall meet all requirements for the specified Type as described herein, includin
12、g both heat and corrosion requirements. 4.1.1 Type 1 For painted parts subjected to a maximum operating temperature of 1000 F (538C). Examples include select hanger brackets, exhaust castings, non-exhaust gas carrying stanchions, etc. These parts require good corrosion resistance combined with a hig
13、h level of heat resistance. 4.1.2 Type 2 For painted parts subjected to a maximum operating temperature of 1200F (650C). Examples include fabricated exhaust stanchion assemblies and other parts which carry hot exhaust gas directly through them. These parts require good corrosion resistance combined
14、with an exceptional level of heat resistance. 4.2 Pre-paint Preparation All surfaces to be painted, including weld metal and surrounding heat-affected zones (HAZ), shall be free of dirt, oil, grease, rust or other contaminants which may inhibit proper adherence of the high temperature paint. Wheneve
15、r possible, surfaces to be painted should exhibit “water-break free” characteristics, indicating a clean surface free of oil and other contaminates. An effective post-weld cleaning procedure is to be utilized and should include either an abrasive (e.g., bead blasting or needle descaler) or chemical
16、acid etch of the welded areas prior to painting. Additional care should be taken if the welded material is stainless steel to assure that any mechanical means of post-weld cleanup does not contaminate the weld and surrounding areas with iron or other elements which could negatively affect paint adhe
17、sion and/or underlying base metal corrosion resistance. The requirement for as-painted parts and assemblies, their weld metal and HAZ is a uniform, continuous paint film with no cracking, peeling, areas of major color change, or other major defects. 4.3 Paint Requirements 4.3.1 Dry Film Properties 4
18、.3.1.1 Thickness Painted parts and assemblies supplied to this specification must maintain a minimum dry film paint thickness per the paint manufacturers recommendation, unless otherwise noted and approved by NAVISTAR Materials Engineering. 4.3.1.2 Color Paint color will typically be black, unless o
19、therwise specified on the engineering drawing. 4.3.1.3 South Florida Exposure Paint must pass a 6-month South Florida Exposure test per the latest version of CEMS GT-7F. 4.3.1.4 Accelerated Weathering Accelerated weathering testing per the latest version of CEMS GT-31 (Method B) will be carried out
