It is applicable to underground steel pipelines in the oil and gas gathering, distribution, and transmission industr

13、ies. This standard was prepared by NACE Task Group 248 on Heat-Shrinkable Sleeve Coatings for External Repair, Rehabilitation, and Weld Joints on Pipelines. This Task Group is administered by Specific Technology Group (STG) 03 on Protective Coatings and LiningsImmersion/Buried. It is also sponsored

14、by STG 04 on Protective Coatings and LiningsSurface Preparation, and STG 35 on Pipelines, Tanks, and Well Casings. This standard is issued by NACE International under the auspices of STG 03. 18、perfor-mance of field-applied, heat-shrinkable sleeves to the exter-nal surfaces of coated pipe. Included are methods for quali-fying and controlling the quality of a heat-shrinkable sleeve, guidelines for proper application, and inspection and repair techniques to ensure its long-term performance.

19、1.2 This standard is applicable to coating systems used to prevent corrosion in conjunction with cathodic protection. 1.3 This standard is applicable to heat-shrinkable wrap-around or tubular-type sleeve systems. _ Section 2: Definitions Applicator: The organization responsible to the purchaser for

20、the coating application. Coating Materials: Pre-manufactured heat-shrinkable sleeves and associated accessory products, e.g., primer, fil-ler materials, coating repair materials, etc. Coating Repair Materials: Pre-manufactured patches, fil-lers, etc., compatible with and made from similar materials

21、as the heat-shrinkable sleeves. Coating System: The complete number and types of coats applied to a substrate in a predetermined order. Filler Material: Compatible material used under a heat-shrinkable sleeve to fill voids or bridge transitions. Holiday: A discontinuity in a protective coating that

22、exposes unprotected surface to the environment. Inspector: The authorized agent of the purchaser. Mainline Coating: The plant-applied pipeline coating to which the heat-shrinkable sleeve girth weld joint-protection system must adhere and be compatible. Purchaser: The owner company or the authorized

23、agency that has the authority for the pipe to which the coating is to be applied. Repair Area: Area of original coating system that has been damaged and is being repaired using the coating materials. Shelf Life: The maximum allowable storage time for a coat-ing material prior to its use. Supplier: T

24、he manufacturer and/or distributor of the coating material. _ Section 3: Coating Systems 3.1 The standard for heat-shrinkable sleeves required for normal conditions contains the following components: (a) Primer (if specified) (b) Pre-manufactured heat-shrinkable sleeve (wrap-around or tubular-type).

25、 The heat-shrinkable sleeve shall consist of a heat-recoverable polyolefin backing coated with a mastic or hot-melt type adhesive layer. (c) Coating repair materials (if required). _ Section 4: Coating Material 4.1 Coating Material Supplier Information 4.1.1 The coating material supplier shall furni

26、sh the following information in writing to the purchaser and/or applicator: (a) Directions for handling and storing the coating material; (b) Laboratory performance test results of the basic physical properties of the coating materials; and; RP0303-2003 2 NACE International (c) Material safety data

27、sheets (MSDS). 4.2 Handling of Coating Materials 4.2.1 Coating material batches shall be identified by a batch coding system devised by the supplier. The batch code shall include a reference to the date of manufacture. Coating materials shall be shipped and stored according to recommendations from t

28、he supplier so that contamination or adverse effects on the coating are avoided. 4.2.2 Shelf Life: Any batch of coating material that has exceeded the recommended shelf life when delivered by the supplier may be rejected by the purchaser. 4.2.2.1 Any rejected coating material shall be immediately re

29、moved from the job site. At the dis-cretion of the purchaser, any batch of coating mat-erial that has exceeded the recommended shelf life may be tested to verify that it meets or exceeds the requirements as set forth herein or by other industry standards as agreed on by the purchaser and the applica

30、tor. _ Section 5: Coating Performance 5.1 Recommended characteristics of an applied coating system are outlined in NACE Standard RP0169.15.2 The heat-shrinkable sleeve coating system and coating repair materials shall meet the performance characteristics as specified in Table 1. 5.3 The heat-shrinka

31、ble sleeve coating system must be compatible with the mainline coating as demonstrated by the coating-specific performance testing as identified in Table 1. 5.4 Performance requirements have been identified for mastic-based and hot-melt type adhesives. Mastic adhe-sives typically have an upper opera

32、ting temperature range of 80C (180F) while hot-melt adhesives can typically per-form up to 120C (250F). When performance requirements are identified as “at operating temperature,” the supplier shall provide results as noted in Table 1 at the rated pipe-line operating temperature for the product or s

33、ystem. 5.5 At the purchasers option, the supplier shall demon-strate fitness for use through prequalification testing, con-sisting of a field application and subsequent destructive peel adhesion testing over the steel cutback and mainline coating. Additional tests may be specified by the purchaser.

34、_ Section 6: Surface Preparation of Pipe 6.1 This section covers recommended procedures for sur-face preparation to ensure the desired performance of a heat-shrinkable sleeve. Note that surface preparation is crit-ical to performance and, therefore, the required surface pre-paration must be clearly

35、stated in suppliers installation liter-ature and performance documentation. 6.2 The applicator shall inspect the pipe surface to be coated for visible dents, scabs, slivers, and other damage. These defects shall be noted and corrected under the direc-tion of the pipeline purchaser. 6.3 The mainline

36、coating edge shall be beveled to 30 or less either at the coating factory or in the field prior to instal-lation of the heat-shrinkable-sleeve coating system. 6.4 The pipe shall be preheated to at least 5C (9F) above the dew point to remove the presence of moisture prior to surface cleaning. 6.5 Pri

37、or to blast or wire-brush cleaning, the surface of the pipe, weld, or repair area shall be inspected and, if required, cleaned as described in SSPC(1)-SP 12to remove the presence of oil, grease, or other contaminants. 6.6 Proper surface preparation requires that metal surfaces be blast cleaned or wi

38、re-brush cleaned to achieve the recommended surface preparation (NACE, SSPC, or ISO(2) 3) as outlined in the respective suppliers installation guides and agreed to by the purchaser. 6.7 Blast cleaned surface profiles shall be angular and a minimum of 50 m (2.0 mils) from peak to valley or as otherwi

39、se specified by the supplier.46.8 The heat-shrinkable-sleeve coating system shall be installed before any corrosion products form but within four hours after surface preparation. If the heat-shrinkable-sleeve coating systen is not installed within the specified period, the surface preparation shall
