6、iiPREFACEIntroductionInternationally, code officials recognize the need for a modern, up-to-date fuel gas code addressingthe design and installation of fuel gas systems and gas-fired appliances through requirementsemphasizing performance. The International Fuel Gas Code, in this 2015 edition, is des
7、igned tomeet these needs through model code regulations that safeguard the public health and safety in allcommunities, large and small.This comprehensive fuel gas code establishes minimum regulations for fuel gas systems and gas-fired appliances using prescriptive and performance-related provisions.
8、 It is founded on broad-based principles that make possible the use of new materials and new fuel gas system and appli-ance designs. This 2015 edition is fully compatible with all of the International Codes(I-Codes)published by the International Code Council (ICC), including the International Buildi
9、ng Code, Inter-national Energy Conservation Code, International Existing Building Code, International Fire Code,International Green Construction Code, International Mechanical Code, ICC Performance Code,International Plumbing Code, International Private Sewage Disposal Code, International PropertyMa
10、intenance Code, International Residential Code, International Swimming Pool and Spa Code,International Wildland-Urban Interface Codeand International Zoning Code.The International Fuel Gas Code provisions provide many benefits, among which is the modelcode development process that offers an internat
11、ional forum for fuel gas technology professionalsto discuss performance and prescriptive code requirements. This forum provides an excellent arenato debate proposed revisions. This model code also encourages international consistency in theapplication of provisions.DevelopmentThe first edition of th
12、e International Fuel Gas Code (1997) was the culmination of an effort initiatedin 1996 by a development committee appointed by ICC and consisting of representatives of thethree statutory members of the International Code Council at that time, including: Building Officialsand Code Administrators Inte
13、rnational, Inc. (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials(ICBO) and Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI) and the gas industry. The intentwas to draft a comprehensive set of regulations for fuel gas systems and gas-fired appliances consis-tent with and inclusive of the s
14、cope of the existing mechanical, plumbing and gas codes. Technicalcontent of the latest model codes promulgated by BOCA, ICBO, SBCCI and ICC and the National FuelGas Code (ANSI Z223.1) was utilized as the basis for the development. This 2015 edition presentsthe code as originally issued, with change
15、s reflected in subsequent editions through 2012, and withcode changes approved through the ICC Code Development Process through 2013 and standardrevisions correlated with ANSI Z223.1-2015. A new edition such as this is promulgated every 3 years.This code is founded on principles intended to establis
16、h provisions consistent with the scope of afuel gas code that adequately protects public health, safety and welfare; provisions that do notunnecessarily increase construction costs; provisions that do not restrict the use of new materials,products or methods of construction; and provisions that do n
17、ot give preferential treatment to par-ticular types or classes of materials, products or methods of construction.FormatThe International Fuel Gas Code is segregated by section numbers into two categories - “code” and“standard” - all coordinated and incorporated into a single document. The sections t
18、hat are “code”are designated by the acronym “IFGC” next to the main section number (e.g., Section 101). The sec-tions that are “standard” are designated by the acronym “IFGS” next to the main section number(e.g., Section 304). A subsection may be individually redesignated as an “IFGS” section where
19、it islocated under an “IFGC” main section.iv 2015 INTERNATIONAL FUEL GAS CODEAdoptionThe International Code Council maintains a copyright in all of its codes and standards. Maintainingcopyright allows the ICC to fund its mission through sales of books, in both print and electronic for-mats. The Inte
20、rnational Fuel Gas Code is designed for adoption and use by jurisdictions that recog-nize and acknowledge the ICCs copyright in the code, and further acknowledge the substantialshared value of the public/private partnership for code development between jurisdictions and theICC.The ICC also recognize
21、s the need for jurisdictions to make laws available to the public. AllICC codes and ICC standards, along with the laws of many jurisdictions, are available for freein a nondownloadable form on the ICCs website. Jurisdictions should contact the ICC atadoptionsiccsafe.org to learn how to adopt and dis
22、tribute laws based on the InternationalFuel Gas Code in a manner that provides necessary access, while maintaining the ICCs copy-right.MaintenanceThe International Fuel Gas Code is kept up to date through the review of proposed changes submit-ted by code enforcing officials, industry representatives
23、, design professionals and other interestedparties. Proposed changes are carefully considered through an open code development process inwhich all interested and affected parties may participate.The contents of this work are subject to change through both the Code Development Cycles andthe governmen
24、tal body that enacts the code into law.
