2、. u8e of all, Federal agencee. 1, SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION 1.1 Scope.-Tlic typewriter stands covered by this specification are intended for use in gen- eral offices where space is limited. - 1.2 Classification. 1.2.1 Types and CIzntensions.-Tho stands sliall be of the following types and diniencions

3、 Type I.-Pedestal-20 inches deep, 46 inches mide, and 2G inches high (fig. I). Type II.-Leg-l7 inches deep, 33% inches wide, and 26 inches high (fig. 2). 1.2.2 CoZors of $nish.-Tlie stands sliall be of one of the following colors of finish as speci- fied, and the colors shall conform to the stand- a

4、rd colors of finish adopted by the Federal Sup- ply Service, General Services Administration : as specified : .1/2 iiiclies when open. Hinges shall be of plain steel and shall not be full swaged. Each hinge shall be secured to the stand and leaf by not less than six screws. 3.1.2.3 Drop-leaf mpport.

5、-The drop-leaf support shall be of the folding type and shall have spring tension to hold the drop-leaf rigidly in place in the raised position. The leaf sup- port shall be rigid and shall be secured to the stand and leaf by not less than four No. 8 screws. Support shall be of plain wrought steel. 3

6、.1.3 Lmper.-The lacquer when applied shall conform to Federal Specification TT-L- 58. The prime coat shall conform to type I and all other coats shall conform to type I, except that the nonvolatile content sliall be not less than 21 percent. The nonvolatile content of semi-gloss lacquer when applied

7、 shall be not less than 21 percent. 3.1.4 Vood. 3.1.4.1 Solid wood.-The solid wood to be used for exposed parts and drawer parts of the stands shall be briglit, well sanded, and free from brashness, discolorations, worm holes, honeycomb, splits and shake, or other defects that affect appearance or t

8、hat iniglit affect serv- iceability, except that a few small burls, pin knots not exceeding two per square foot aver- age, mineral streaks not exceeding ?.AND 4.1 Sampling.-A representative sample stand shall be selected from those under con- struction or from each delivery, for purposes of inspecti

9、on. 4.2 Inspection.-The stand sliall be in- spected to determine compliance with this speci- fication as to workmanship, materials, design, details of construction, hardware, finish, mark- ings and packing. Inspection shall be made at the factory by a representative of the Govern- ment at any time d

10、uring process of manufac- ture, or at point of delivery. TEST PROCEDURES 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Packaging.-Unless otherwise specified, commercial packages are acceptable. 5.2 Packing.-The stands shall be prepared for shipment to permit acceptance by carrier or transportation at the lowest a

11、pplicable rate, and to afford maximum protection from normal hazards of transportation. 5.3 Marking.-Unless otherwise specified, shipping containers shall be marked with the name of the commodity, the Federal stock num- ber, and the quantity contained therein, as de- fined by the contract or order u

12、nder wliicii the shipment is made, the nam0 of the contractor, the number of the contract or order, anci the full name and address of the consignee. 6 6. NOTES 6.1 Ordering data.-The purchaser should specify the type and color of finish of the stand required, and should exercise any desired op- tion

13、s offered herein (see 1.2.1,1.2.2,5.1,5.3, and sec. 7). 6.2 Federal Specifications do not include all types, classes, grades, sizes, etc., of the com- modities indicated by the titles of the specifica- tions, or which are commercially available, but are intended to cover the types, etc., which are s

14、uitable for Federal Government requirements. 6.3 It is believed that this specification ade- quately describes the characteristics necessary to secure the desired material and that normally no samples mill be necessary prior to award to determine compliance with this specification. If, for any parti

15、cular purpose, samples with bids are necessary, they should be specifically asked for in the invitation for bids, and the particular purpose to be served by the bid sample should be definitely stated, the specifica- tion to apply in all other respects. Patent notice,-When Government drawings, specif

16、i- cations, or other data are used for any purpose other than In connection with a definitely related Govern- ment procurement operation, the United States Govern- ment thereby incurs no. responsibility nor any obliga- tion whntsoever; and the fact that the Government may hare formulated, furnished,

25、sed. 7.2.2.2 Stands shall be wrapped with water- proof paper conforming to Military Specifi- cation JAN-P-125. Seams and closures shall be sealed with adhesive conforming to ailitary Specification MIL-A-140. 7.2.3 Packing. 7.2.3.1 For domestic shipm,ent.-Stands, packaged as described in 7.2.2.1 shal

28、chases, and in ac- cordance with Military Specification JAK-P- 106 only for Air Force purchases. 7.2.4 Afai3kzng.-In addition to any special marlring required by the contract or order, in- terior packages and shipping containers shall benmarkcd in accordance with Military Stand- ard BIILSTD-129. 7.2

33、specific procurement functions should be obtained from the procuring agency or as directed by the contracting ocer.) 7.3.2 Sampling and inspectzon.-Samphg shall be conducted in accordance with proce- dures set forth in Military Standard MIL- STD-105. Inspection shall be made by the Government to det

34、ermine compliance with the requirements of this specification. 7.3.3 Packagfig. 7.3.3.1 Complete top shall be covered with a sheet of 60-pound basis weight (2436-500) glazed paper, folded over the edges and taped in place on the underside of the top. The stand shall be padded with excelsior pads, ce

35、llulose wadding bIaiikets, or equivalent padding mate- rials at all points of contact with walls of ship- ping container. 7.3.4 Packng. 7.3.4.1 Por domestic shipntent.-Each stand shall be packed in a snug fitting corrugated or solid fiberboard container conforming to the requirements of Federal Spec

36、ifications LLL- B-631 and LLLB-636, &yle RSC, respectively, cncept boxes shall test not less than 200 pounds. All flaps of fiberboard contaii,ers shall be Fe- curely sealed, with an adhesive cominerciallp used for the specific product being packed, by application throughout the entire area of con- t

37、act between the flaps. 7.3.4.2 For overseas shipment.-Each srand, packaged as described in 7.3.3 shall be pricked in containers constructed and strapped in ac- cordance with one of the following specifica- tions : In quantities as specified by the contract- ing officer, except gross weight of shippi

38、ng containers shall not exceed approximately 125 pounds, style 2 or 21/, type 2 load of Military Specification JAN-P-106, or style A or B, type 2 load of Military Specification JAN-P-105. 7.3.4.3 Each overseas shipping ciinkaiiier shall be provided with a sealed case liner or prefabricated bag confo

39、rming to Military Specification JAN-P-125., type IL-2 or M. Closures and seams shall be completely sealed with a continuous seam at least % inch wide of water-resistant adhesive conforming to Mili- tary Specification BIILA-140. 7.3.5 Marking. 7.3.5.1 Labeling.-Each intermediate con- tainer shall be
