SCOPE This specification establishes the performance and product requirements for packaged service fill engine oils and is not intended to limit the material to any specific formulati

3、on, but rather defines the total performance required. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for oils marketed under the Motorcraft trademark and used for lubrication of automotive gasoline and diesel fueled internal combustion engines. The material defined by this specification

4、is suitable for spark ignition and most compression ignition engines, consistent with the original equipment manufacturers lubrication recommendations. The material also has heavy duty powershift transmission fluid applications for certain viscosity grades. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS

5、FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.1 Shall meet all of the requirements described in this specification to assure: (a) material approved to this specification satisfies all app

6、ropriate user and original equipment manufacturers requirements, (b) reliable test documentation is available to substantiate labeling and advertising claims, and (c) the packaged material is maintained at a uniform quality level which is equivalent to the originally approved formulation. 3.2 PERFOR

7、MANCE 3.2.1 Shall meet all the requirements of Ford Engineering Material Specification ESE-M2C153 (latest revision). 3.2.2 Shall satisfy all the requirements of the American Petroleum Institute (API) service categories “SF“ and “CD“ as defined in SAE Recommended Practice J183 (latest revision). 3.2.

8、3 Shall meet the requirements of Engine Oil Viscosity Classifications as defined by SAE Recommended Practice J300 (latest revision). (a) Administrative Service, MIL-L-46152 (latest revision).

10、(b) Tactical Service, MIL-L-2104 (latest revision). It shall also be the suppliers responsibility to obtain and renew as required, the corresponding military qualification numbers. The requirement to obtain the qualification numbers may be waived in writing by the affected product engineering office

11、. 3.2.5 Shall, for the applicable viscosity grades, meet all the performance requirements of Caterpillar Tractor Company Oil Test No. TO-2 (latest revision). 3.2.6 Shall, for the applicable viscosity grades, meet all the performance requirements of the Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Moto

12、rs Corporation Transmission Engineering Specification for Hydraulic Transmission Fluid Type C-3 (latest revision). 3.2.7 Shall, for the applicable viscosity grades, meet all the performance criteria of Mack Trucks, Inc., general engineering specification for engine oil: Mack EO-J. 3.2.8 Shall meet t

13、he following physical properties for the SAE 15W-40 viscosity grade. (All other viscosity grades refer to para 3.2.1): (a) Viscosity at -15 C, max 3500 cP (mPas) (ASTM D 2602) (b) Viscosity at 100 C 12.5 - 16.3 cSt (mm2/s) (ASTM D 445) (c) Borderline Pumping Temperature, max -20 C (ASTM D 3829) (d)

After being cooled below its pour point, the oil shall regain its homogeneity on standing at a temperature which is not higher than 5

17、 C above the pour point. 3.3 FLEET TESTING Materials which, in the opinion of the affected product engineering office, constitute a significant departure from conventional formulations, whether in base stocks, refining processes or additive packages, must be fleet tested, in addition to the requirem

18、ents outlined above. These tests must include the type(s) of service judged to be affected by the difference in formulation technology. The affected product engineering office must agree that the tests are appropriate. Supplier shall report data from controlled oil fleet tests which he must accumula

19、te on candidate oils under service conditions representative of those specified by the individual vehicle manufacturers on vehicles equipped with current emission suppression devices. Such information, combined with engine sequence testing, constitutes proof of field performance of candidate oils wh

20、en run in fleets such as taxicab operations, police vehicle service, truck fleet service, low temperature stop-and-go tests and high speed durability tests. Fleet data on oil consumption, shear stability, PCV valve plugging, blowby, used oil analysis, main bearing weight loss, rod bearing weight los

21、s, camshaft lobe wear, valve lifter wear, valve tip wear, cylinder bore wear, ring gap increase, sludge and varnish ratings are required. Any of the above (para 3.3 only) requirements may be modified or waived in writing pending the review of the suppliers data by the affected product engineering of

22、fice. 3.4 DOCUMENTATION Supplier must furnish to the affected product engineering office complete test results for permanent retention. These results must be certified by a qualified and authorized representative of the supplying company and must demonstrate full compliance with all the physical, tr

23、ansmission and engine test requirements of this specification. All tests must be conducted in accordance with the most recently approved procedures and test conditions as supplemented by information letters. All tests, currently under surveillance by the American Society for Testing and Materials (A

24、STM), must be performed on test stands monitored by the ASTM Test Monitoring Center. All tests must be certified by a qualified and authorized representative of the test facility. The test reports must include results on both the candidate oil and the appropriate reference oils (supplied by the ASTM

25、 Test Monitoring Center, where applicable). The standard photographs of the test components are considered an essential part of the required test documentation. Any test variations must be duly noted and explained. The oil sample code used for identification in each test document must be consistent

26、for all the submitted engine qualification and powershift transmission fluid tests. If the oil sample codes are not uniform, a detailed letter of explanation must be provided. The affected product engineering office shall decide if the explanation is adequate and the form of the data acceptable. For

27、 the 3 multiviscosity grades: SAE 20 W-50, SAE 20W-40 and SAE 10W-30, complete engine sequence testing is required on SAE 10W-30. Either of the remaining products, which have not been engine tested, may be qualified by supplier certification that they contain the same viscosity index improver and at

28、 least the same inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, etc., and are compounded with oils of the same base stock as the lubricant previously qualified. The supplier is responsible for providing adequate information to substantiate the equivalency of the base stocks. Where a multi-functional viscosity ind

29、ex improver is used to qualify SAE 10W-30, complete engine sequence testing must be provided for either SAE 20W-50 or SAE 20W-40 at the discretion of the affected product engineering office. 30、chnologies, LLC Page 5 of 6 Complete engine qualification and powershift transmission fluid testing is required for the SAE 15W-40 multi-viscosity grade. For the 5 single grades: SAE 10W, SAE 20W-20, SAE 30, SAE 40 and SAE 50, complete engine qualification and powershift transmission fluid testing i

31、s required for both SAE 10 W and SAE 30. The remaining three products which have not been engine tested may be qualified based on SAE 30 testing and supplier certification of identical quality and type of additive package and satisfactory demonstration of base stock equivalency to the affected produ

32、ct engineering office. The definition of engine oil for purposes of this specification shall be a finished base stock plus a specific additive package. The supplier must provide specific base stock information, in addition to engine test data, indicating crude source, refining process and percentage

33、 of blend components. If the supplier changes either the base stock source, refining processes or any individual additive, the previous data provided will not be considered adequate to maintain approval. It shall be the responsibility of the supplier to provide sufficient additional test data to sat

34、isfy the responsible product engineering office that the reformulated product meets all pertinent specifications. The magnitude of the change will determine the extent of the test data required. If the affected product engineering office determines that the change is too large, all new certified tes

35、t data showing compliance with this specification will be required. 3.5 VERIFICATION The practice of verification testing is intended to discourage marginal product formulations. The supplier must provide such quantities of material for testing as required by the affected product engineering office.

36、 It is the suppliers responsibility to submit samples of the quality and composition which the supplier intends to produce on a continuing basis. The affected product engineering office reserves the right to conduct verification testing at its own expense on the samples provided by the supplier at a

37、ny time. If the material fails to validate existing test data to the satisfaction of the affected product engineering office, the supplier must coordinate through the affected product engineering office a re-test to support product claims. This supplier-purchased test must be certified and conducted

38、 by an independent laboratory (monitored by the ASTM, where applicable). This re-test must be completed in a timely manner (typically within six months) after supplier notification. Failure to satisfy this requirement shall be considered grounds for rejection of the material in question. If the mate

39、rial under test verifies the submitted test data, then samples of this material will be analyzed for physical properties and elemental composition and the results of this analysis shall be used as the basis for the Quality Control Supplement (para 3.6). 3.6 CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES Specific

40、chemical and physical properties are not specified herein, but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued to cover each approved material. The selected engineering approved source shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical properties along with the production tolerance limits that

41、 apply to the material(s) upon which approval was given. The agreed upon values and limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affected product engineering office. These values will then be used by Quality Control for ongoing quality verifications. The Quality Control Supplement is an integral

42、requirement of this specification. If more than one source supplies material to this specification, a Quality Control Supplement will be issued for each specific approved material. 43、, LLC Page 6 of 6 3.7 COMPATIBILITY Shall be capable of tolerating small amounts of moisture and/or coolant without adverse effects such as: (1) precipitation of dispersant/detergent additive package, (2) loss of dispersive characteristics and (3) reaction to form gel structure. This tolerance must

44、be demonstrated in both “fresh“ and “used“ oil conditions. The specific test requirement for filterability and moisture compatibility remains to be determined. 3.8 STORAGE Shall not settle or separate to the extent that would require remixing before use and must be capable of storage without any det

45、rimental effect for a minimum of 2 years. Supplier shall furnish all necessary information on types of material required for packaging and on the storage life of the material in each of the product packages supplied. For any particular size package or container for the product, the supplier shall fu

46、rnish information on safe storage practice and recommendations as to a maximum and minimum ambient temperatures and direct sun load conditions at which the product may be stored without any adverse effect. If the package is considered unsafe for storage in an automotive vehicle, the package shall be

47、 labeled accordingly and the safe storage conditions specified. 3.9 SAFETY Shall be safe to use and must be formulated to minimize employe health hazards due to toxic or otherwise injurious ingredients. It must meet all applicable federal, state and local regulations. 3.10 LABELING 3.10.1 Provisions

48、 of this specification are applicable when material is used according to labeling directions. Any precautions involved in the use of the material must be clearly stated on the product label. 3.10.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply to the Federal Hazardous Substances Act and all other pro

49、visions under the Consumer Product Safety Commission and all other applicable federal, state and local regulations. Supplier shall furnish the affected product engineering office with the label(s). 3.10.3 Supplier shall furnish certification that the composition of his product has been examined and that the label recommended is in compliance with the Federal Hazardous Substances Act and all other provisions under the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
