SCOPE: This standard describes requirements and tests for motor starter assemblies and combination motor starters intended for general use throughout the F
、ord Motor Company. 2. GENERAL: 2.1 Prior to placing starters on test as described in Section ll., the manufacturers line of starters shall be reviewed for compliance with the features and requirements outlined in this standard, 2.2 Motor starters shall be rated according to NEMA Standard ICS.2, Indu
、strial Controls and Systems. The following ratings are for operation at 460 ac, 60 Hz., three-phase. Size 1 - Up to and including 10 horsepower. Size 2 - Above 10 but not exceeding 25 horsepower. Size 3 - Above 25 but not exceeding 50 horsepower. 2.3 Starters shall comply with NEMA and UL requiremen
、ts for heat rise tests. Starters shall be listed in the UL “Electrical Construction Materials List“, prior to acceptance for Ford tests and approval. Each starter manufacturer shall furnish evidence of this listing. CSA acceptance is required for Ford plants in Canada. 2.4 The mechanical and electri
、cal interlock system on reversing starters shall be effective in preventing operation of the opposite assembly. In no case shall the mechanical interlock hold an assembly in other than the fully open position, or allow a jam to occur between the two assemblies if they are energized simultaneously. 2
、.5 Each supplier shall have available a complete range of starters rated according to NEMA Standard ICS, through and including size 3 (50 horsepower), and should have available similar designs through size 5 (200 horsepower). 2.6 Multiple starter assemblies, e.g., reversing and multi-speed types, sh
、all have the required number of starters mounted to a common base plate with screws to allow individual contactor replacement. 2.7 Metal parts shall be non-corrosive or otherwise tinned, plated or treated to resist the effects of corrosion and oxidation. Current carrying parts in the power circuit s
、hall be of copper or copper alloy. 2.8 Interchangeable mounting dimensions are preferred for starters rated NEMA sizes 1 and 2. 9、 require further evaluation and approval to remain on the acceptance list. Changes shall be indicated by a revision of the model or series number. The model and/or series numbers shall be shown on the exterior of the package in which the starter is shipped, as well as on the starter nameplate. 3. EL
、ECTRICAL RATINGS 3.1 VOLTAGE 3.1.1 Starter solenoid coils shall be nominally rated for 115 ac (60 Hz) or 24v dc. 3.1.2 The starter solenoid coils shall operate successfullywithin a voltage range of plus 10% to minus 15% of the nominal supply. Voltage variations may be gradual or instantaneous excurs
、ions from the nominal. 4. TEMPERATURE RATINGS 4.1 Starters shall be capable of operating continuously inside an enclosure in a temperature range from -32 C to 71 C(-26 F to 160 F). 5. CONTACTS 5.1 Power contacts shall be replaceable without removing the starter housing from the mounting plate. Movab
、le contacts shall be replaceable without disconnecting any terminal wiring. Stationary contacts should be replaceable without disconnecting terminal wiring. 5.2 Only three power contacts are required. 5.3 Auxiliary contact assemblies shall include both normally open and normally closed type contacts
、 with four separate terminals (no common). Mounting provisions shall be provided for a minimum of four contact assemblies (includes the electrical interlocks on reversing starters) in any combination of open or closed arrangement on each starter assembly. Auxiliary contact assemblies shall not be fi
、eld convertible. 5.4 Provision shall be made to add, remove, or replace auxiliary contact assemblies without removing or disturbing other components on the starter. 5.5 Reversing starters shall be equipped with normally closed electrical interlocks in addition to the mechanical interlock. TERMINALS AND WIRING 6.1 Power and control terminals shall accommodate type MTW conductors, minimum 19 strands. AWG no. 8 and smaller conductor strands shall be clamped bet
、ween two nonrotating surfaces. Saddle or pressure plates shall be captive to the terminal screw. Neither the head nor the point of the terminal screw shall bear directly on conductors AWG size 8 and smaller. 6.2 Conductors smaller than AWG 10, used for integral wiring of the starter, shall be strand
、ed, type MTW. 6.3 All terminals shall be accessible for wiring and testing without removal or disturbance of other components on the starter. 6.4 Each terminal, power and control, shall be permanently identified, and shall coincide with published diagrams by the manufacturer. 6.5 Wiring of the power
、 circuit shall be of the straight-through design, with line terminals above and load terminals below the moving assembly. The load terminals shall be adjacent to each other. The design shall use a minimum number of joints between the line and load terminals. 6.6 Provisions shall be made to terminate
、 power factor correction wiring to the terminals between the contactor and the overload assembly. 7. OVERLOAD RELAYS 7.1 Overload relays shall be of the “trip free“ type which will prevent premature reset after tripping. When the overload unit has tripped, it shall be necessary to press and release
、the reset button to reset the overload contact(s). After normal reset, depressing the reset button shall not affect operation of the overload contact(s), Continuous depression of the reset button shall not cause automatic reset of the contact(s). 7.2 Starters shall be furnished with three overload r
、elays mounted in a single assembly. 7.3 Overload relays shall be of the manual reset type. Combination manual-automatic reset types are not acceptable. 7.4 A readily visible indicator shall be provided to indicate the tripped position of the overload. Manipulation of the indicator shall not adversel
、y affect operation of the overload assembly as described in 7.1.
