2、RDNational forewordThis British Standard is the UK implementation of EN ISO 16641:2016. It is identical to ISO 16641:2014.Attention is drawn to the fact that during the development of this International Standard, the UK committee voted against its approval.This standard proposes a new passive detect

3、or system for measuring thoron (Rn-220) which consists of two passive diffusion chambers. It is the opinion of the UK committee that ISO 16641 does not provide clear guidance and lacks essential technical information about the specific parameters of the diffusion chambers and their operation. More i

4、nformation is needed about the design and technical requirements of the diffusion chambers and the values required for the minimum and maximum diffusion rates of radon/thoron detectors. The UK committee is also of the opinion that ISO 16641 should include additional instruction in section 6.3.1, Ins

5、tallation of sampling devices, to avoid placement of detectors in close proximity to the walls or directly on the floor, so that the risk of thoron contamination from the building materials is minimised.The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee NCE/2, Radiation pro
