1、 A-A-59842 November 4, 2009 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION BELAY DEVICE, MOUNTAINEERING This commercial item description is approved for use by the Defense Supply Center, Philadelphia and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item d
2、escription covers the requirements for a belay device which is used to belay personnel and equipment and rappel. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The belay device will be furnished in one size. 2.1 Sizing. The belay device will conform to the sizes and characteristics as specified in Drawing 3-3-0103. The belay d
3、evice will be as light-weight as possible, while meeting the standards described in the description. 3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The belay/rappel device shall be designed to have three modes of operation; high friction, normal friction and auto-locking. All three modes, (Type II, Type III or Type IV
4、) shall be possible using two Kernmantle Ropes in accordance with A-A-59835. The belay device shall be a one-piece forged construction with no rivets. The belay channels shall be designed with a smooth regular friction side and a high friction side with v-shaped grooves for added braking power. The
5、belay device shall be capable of being used in an auto-locking mode when top roping from above. The device shall be furnished with an auto-locking release hole where an object such as a webbing runner in accordance with A-A-59840 can be used to release tension. The belay device shall have a harness
6、retaining cable loop. The device shall have a typical carabiner in accordance with A-A-59836, attachment eye for use in the auto-locking mode. The belay device shall include permanent markings on the body that identifies the correct routing of the rope. The belay device design shall provide ease of
7、use with typical combat gloves while meeting the standards described in the description. The belay device shall be provided in a low reflectance, matte finish and provide low contrast with typical use terrain unless otherwise stated in the contract or solicitation (see 7.2). 3.2 Materials. 3.2.1
10、 Basic material. The belay device shall be constructed from aluminum construction. 3.2.2 Retaining cable material. The retaining cable material shall be aluminum constructed 3.3 Testing. The belay device shall be able to withstand 5 falls, in accordance with the International Mountaineering and Clim
11、bing Federation, Union Internationale des Associations dAlpinisme (UIAA) Standard 129. 3.4 Labels. Each belay device shall have identification label Class 5 conforming to Type VI of MIL-DTL-32075. The color of the label shall be white. The following information shall be included in the printing for
12、the identification label for the belay device. BELAY DEVICE, MOUNTAINEERING NSN: XXXX-XX-XXX-XXXX The following instruction information shall be supplied: a. the name or trademark of the manufacturer, importer or supplier b. the meaning of any markings on the product c. the use of the product, espec
13、ially the maximum diameter of the rope with which the belay device can be used, on how to pass the rope through the device. d. how to choose other components for use in the system e. how to maintain and service the product f. the lifespan of the product or how to assess it g. the effects of chemical
14、 reagents and temperature on the product h. the effects of storage and aging. i. identification of the model, if more than one model is available. 3.5 Workmanship. The finished belay device shall conform to the quality of product established by this document. The occurrence of defects shall not exce
15、ed the contractors own quality assurance standards and the quality assurance standards defined in the technical data in the solicitation and/or contract. 3.6 Service life. The belay device shall have no unexpected material or component failures during a continuous one-year cycle. The belay device sh
