2、A-59760 13 December 2004 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION TEN-DEGREE XYLENE The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all federal agencies. 1. SCOPE. This commercial item description (CID) covers ten-degree xylene for use in organic coating and rot

3、ogravure inks. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The ten-degree xylene shall be classified by size. The selected size of the product to be supplied shall be one of the following sizes as specified in the acquisition order (see 7.3(b). Size: A - 1-quart can B - 1-gallon can C - 5-gallon can D - 54-gallon drum 3. SA

4、LIENT CHARACTERISTICS. The ten-degree xylene shall conform to the following physical and chemical characteristics: 3.1 Appearance. The xylene shall be a clear liquid free of sediment or haze at 18.3 C to 25.6 C (65 F to 78 F) upon visual inspection. 3.2 Color. The xylene shall not be darker than 20

5、maximum on the platinum-cobalt scale when tested in accordance with ASTM D 1209, “Standard Test Method for Color of Clear Liquids (Platinum-Cobalt Scale)“ (DoD adopted). 3.3 Specific gravity. The xylene shall be 0.860 to 0.875 when tested in accordance with ASTM D 3505, “Standard Test Method for Den

6、sity or Relative Density of Pure Liquid Chemicals“ (DoD adopted), at 15.56/15.56 C. The xylene shall be 0.856 to 0.872 g/cm3at 20 C (68 F) when tested in accordance with ASTM D

7、3505. 3.5 Distillation. The xylene distillation range at 760 mm Hg pressure shall be as follows when tested in accordance with ASTM D 850, “Standard Test Method for Distillation of Industrial Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Related Materials“ (DoD adopted), using an ASTM Solvents Distillation Thermometer

8、41C having a range from 98 C to 152 C (208.4 F to 305.6 F) and conforming to ASTM E 1, “Standard Specification for ASTM Liquid-in-Glass Thermometers“ (DoD adopted): a. Total distillation range shall not be more than 10 C. b. Initial distillation temperature (first drop) shall not be below 135 C (275

9、 F). c. Dry point shall not be above 145 C (293 F). 3.6 Acid wash color. The xylene acid wash color shall not be darker than number 6 color standard when tested in accordance with ASTM D 848, “Standard Test Method for Acid Wash Color of Industrial Aromatic Hydrocarbons“ (DoD adopted). 3.7 Acidity. T

10、he xylene shall contain no free acid. The xylene shall show no evidence of acidity when tested in accordance with ASTM D 847, “Standard Test Method for Acidity of Benzene, Toluene, Xylenes, Solvent Naphthas, and Similar Industrial Aromatic Hydrocarbons“ (DoD adopted). 3.8 Sulfur compounds. The xylen

11、e shall be free of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) when tested in accordance with ASTM D 853, “Standard Test Method for Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfur Dioxide Content (Qualitative) of Industrial Aromatic Hydrocarbons“ (DoD adopted). 3.9 Copper corrosion. The copper strip shall not show

12、iridescence nor a gray or discoloration of black deposit when tested in accordance with ASTM D 849, “Standard Test Method for Copper Strip Corrosion by Industrial Aromatic Hydrocarbons“ (DoD adopted). 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Recovered materials. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use rec

13、overed materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. PRODUCT CONFORMANCE PROVISIONS 5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this CID, conform to the producers own drawi

14、ngs, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. PACKAGING 6.1 Preservation, packing and marking. Preservation, packing and marking shall be as specified in the acquisition order (see 7.3(c). 7. N
