5、quency in hertz (if for ac)*; and(d) the rated functioning temperature identified inCelsius or Fahrenheit by a specific temperaturemarking or, alternatively, by a unique model or typenumber.* The electrical rating may be omitted owing to restrictionsin the size of the TCO if a different catalogue nu
6、mber isemployed for each electrical rating or if the TCO isspecifically designed as part of an appliance.5.2 DocumentationThe manufacturer shall make available a set ofapplication instructions that includes at least thefollowing:(a) the values T to T h and T m their meaning anduse;(b) handling and m
7、ounting instructions that willprevent damage to the TCO;(c) functioning temperature (T f) tolerance;(d) spacing to metal parts (see Clause 4.4);(e) application instructions for an SOD, whichshall describe conditions that may cause the deviceto reset;(f) complete electrical rating; and(g) suitability
8、 for sealing in or use with impreg-nating fluids or cleaning solvents.5.3The quarter and year of manufacture, as a minimum,shall be marked on the TCO, except that where thisis impracticable owing to size limitations, themarking may appear only on the package.Note: Date coding, serial numbers, or equ
9、ivalent meansmay be used.4.4 SpacingsThe spacings for a TCO shall be not less than thosespecified in Table 1. The spacings betweenelements of the operating mechanism (such ascontacts) are not defined, but acceptability isdetermined by the dielectric strength test specifiedin Clause 6.4.4.5 Means for
10、 Factory Calibration of anSOD4.5.1A means provided for factory calibration shall befactory secured to prevent unintentional shiftingafter calibration.4.5.2A means of calibration that is accessible or apparentafter installation shall be modified, guarded, orsealed by a means such as soldering or ceme
11、ntingto effectively prevent manipulation by hand or anordinary tool subsequent to factory calibration.4.5.3With reference to Clause 4.5.2, a calibration meansshall be considered not accessible or apparent if itdoes not show, is not exposed to manipulation by aconventional tool, or is not readily dis
12、placed.Complete concealment of a conventional tool-engaging means in a screw such as a slot, recessedhead, or the like by the use of solder, brazingmaterial, or cement acceptable for the purpose isadequate to prevent manipulation if the calibrationmeans cannot be changed readily by gripping with aco
13、nventional tool and engagement or manipulationis prevented at all other locations.4.5.4Enamel and other polymeric materials shall not beused to secure or seal the means of calibration at thefactory if they are exposed to temperatures higherthan 120C unless they have been subjected tothermal aging te
14、sts and have been found acceptablefor use at higher temperatures.6. Tests6. 1 General6.1.1Measurements of voltages and currents shall becarried out with instruments that do not appreciablyaffect the values measured. For ac, the test voltageshall be substantially sinusoidal with a frequencybetween 45
15、 and 62 Hz.5. Marking5.1A TCO shall be permanently marked with thefollowing:(a) manufacturers name, trademark, tradename,or other recognized symbol of identification;11Thermal Cut-OffsFebruary, 1986 (Replaces p. 1, July, 1985)Tests6.1.2Temperatures shall be measured to an accuracy ofat least :i:1C.
16、Temperature of ovens shall beconstant to within:i:1 C in the immediate area of thetest sample. Where temperature or rise in temper-ature is to be monitored on a TCO inside an oven, itshall be monitored by means of a 30 AWGthermocouple attached to an identical but non-functioning TCO mounted adjacent
17、 to the deviceunder test.6.1.3If the leads of a TCO require lengthening to undergoany tests, wire of the same gauge shall be attachedto the leads using a suitable method that achieves alow impedance junction, eg, welding or brazing.6. 1.4If a TCO is terminated in quick-connect or screwterminals, wir
18、e of the size specified in Table 7 shallbe attached using a suitable method that achieves alow impedance junction, eg, welding or brazing, tofacilitate testing.6.2 Overload6.2.1A TCO shall be placed in a test oven in whichthe temperature has been stabilized 10C belowthe minimum expected functioning
19、temperature. Atest current of the value specified in Tables 2,4, and5 at the voltage specified in Table 3 shall be appliedto the TCO under test and the temperature shallonce more be allowed to stabilize. Thetemperature of the oven shall then be raised at therate of 2 :i: 1C/min until the TCO functio
20、ns or theoven temperature reaches 30C above the max-imum rated functioning temperature. In the latterevent the TCO shall be considered unacceptable.Note: A suitable test fixture for use in a gravity type ovenis shown in Figure 1.6.2.2Forthe test specified in Clause 6.2.1, an unenclosedTCO shall be e
21、nclosed by a metal screen ofdimensions as specified by the manufacturer (seeClause 5.2(d). The screen shall be connectedthrough a 3 A fuse to ground.6.2.3During the test specified in Clause 6.2.1 the TCOshall function positively and there shall be nodamage to the integral leads of the TCO. The caseo
22、f an enclosed TCO shall remain intact to the extentthat there is no emission of flame or moltenmetal. The fuse required in Clause 6.2.2 shall notrupture. 6.2.4At the conclusion of the overload test the TCO shallbe subjected to the dielectric strength test specifiedin Clause 6.4.6.3 Transient Overloa
23、d Current6.3.1A TCO of the normally closed type shall besubjected to 100 dc current pulses, 3 ms wide(:t:10% at the 90% points), with an amplitude of15 times rated current (:t:5% of obtained current)applied at the rate of 6 per minute.6.3.2After the completion of the test each sample shall besubject
24、ed to the calibration verification testspecified in Clause 6.5 with acceptable results.6.4 Dielectric Strength6.4.1A TCO shall be capable of withstanding for 1 minwithout breakdown the application of(a) an ac voltage of 1000 V plus twice maximumrated voltage between supply leads or terminals andnon-
