25、eting“.Thetesthasbeenmodifiedtomakeitapplicableto strongwovenandknittedfabrics,coatedfabricsandleather.Thetestisdesignedtoassesstheresistanceto snaggingandtearingofmaterialsusedforprotectiveclothing.Itisimportanttoknowthepunctureanddynamic tearresistanceofmaterialusedforprotectiveclothingthatisinten

26、dedtobeusedinhazardoussituationswherethe clothingformsabarrierbetweenthewearerandthehazard,andbreachingofthebarriercanresultinharmandthe levelofriskofharmisrelatedtothesizeofholeresultingfromthepunctureandtear.Suchclothingincludes chemicalandbiologicalbarrierclothing,spraysuits,foulweatherclothingan

Dynamictearingofmaterialsfollowingpuncturebyaspikeisacomplexprocess.ThetestgiveninthisEuropean Standardhasbeendevisedtoprovidestandardconditionsunderwhichmaterialscanbecompared.Experience withmaterialsofknownresistancewillenableproductstandardswritersandclothingdesignerstospec

32、Thehardsteeltearingbladehasagroundwedgeshapedendthathasaradiusofcurvaturesothat itisnotsharp,butwillpuncturetestmaterials.Themainbodyofthebladeis3mmthickandthelower surfaceishalfround.Thislowersurfacecausestheblunttearinthetestspecimenthatismeasuredinthe test.Thisbladeperformsthesamefunctionasthespi

39、testspecimenisvertical.Theupperpartoftheblockismachinedtobeaquadrantsothatthetestspecimenlies backonitandpresentsacurvedfaceupwardstowardsthetearingbladeattachedtoafallingmassthatisdropped ontothetestspecimen.Thetearingbladeissharpenedonitsendsothatitpuncturesthecurvedpartofthetest specimen.Theround

40、edlowersurfaceofthebladetearsdownwardsintotheverticalpartofthetestspecimenuntil theenergyinthefallingmassisdissipated.Theverticalfaceoftheblockhasaslotmachinedintoitsothattheend ofthebladeisintheblockandthemiddlepartofthebladecausesthetearing. Itisfoundonverystrongmaterialsthatthepuncturingprocessby
