In order to carry out the tests in Annex

9、B and Annex E in this British Standard it is necessary to establish whether, and to what extent, the paint as supplied needs to be thinned and/or stirred before use and the recommended coverage. Guidance on the use of materials in this specification is given in BS6150. Product certification. Users o

10、f this British Standard are advised to consider the desirability of third party certification of product conformity with this BritishStandard based on testing and continuing product surveillance which may be coupled with assessment of a suppliers quality systems against the appropriate Part of BS575

14、his British Standard specifies performance requirements and appropriate methods of test for water-borne emulsion paints for interior use applied by brush, roller or spray techniques. It covers matt and mid-sheen emulsion paints which can be applied to non-metallic substrates, classified into three t

15、ypes covering different circumstances where the paint may be applied. It also specifies requirements for the marking of containers which may be of a range of nominal capacities. 2 References 2.1 Normative references This British Standard incorporates, by reference, provisions from specific editions

18、 3 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the definitions given in BS 2015:1992 apply. 4 Classification Emulsion paints conforming to this British Standard shall be classified into three types, as given in Table 1. 5 Sampling For the purposes of the tests referred to in clause8, a rep

19、resentative sample of the paint, measuring not less than 5l, shall be taken and packed by the method described in BS 3900-A1:1992. A container of non-corrodible material shall be used. 6 Keeping properties The paint, when stored in its original containers at a temperature between 5C and 35C for 18mo

20、nths from the date of manufacture shall conform to clause8. 7 Consistency The emulsion paint shall be of a consistency that is suitable for application by brush, roller or spray technique, as applicable, after thinning and stirring if necessary, in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.

21、8 Performance 8.1 Drying time The paint shall be applied to a clean glass test panel conforming to BS EN 605:1992, at a wet film thickness of (55 5) m and allowed to dry with free access of air at a temperature of (23 2) C and a relative humidity of (50 5)% and then tested by the method described in

22、 BSEN29117:1992. The paint film shall be hard-dry in not more than 2h. 8.2 Low temperature film formation When tested in accordance with Annex A the paint film shall show no visible cracking (when viewed under 10 magnification). 8.3 Appearance and opacity 8.3.1 All paints of type B and those of type

23、s A and C, other than those having the colours specified in8.3.2 and 8.3.3, when prepared and tested in accordance with Annex B using a painting system comprising one sealing coat and one finishing coat shall be smooth, even and free from wet edge defects, runs, flotation or other defects. There sha

24、ll be no difficulties in application. The ink line Shall be completely obliterated. 8.3.2 Paint of type A and type C conforming to any of the following colour references specified in BS4800:1989, or colours of similar hue and depth of shade, when prepared and tested in accordance with Annex B using

25、a painting system comprising one sealing coat and two finishing coats, shall be smooth, even and free from wet edge defects, runs, flotation or other defects. 27、oth, even and free from wet edge defects, runs, flotation or other defects. NOTEThese colours have poor intrinsic opacity and they may require more than two finishing coats and/or the use of a coloured ground coat to obtain complete obliteration of the ink line. 8.4 Scrubbing test When tested in acc

28、ordance with Annex C, the fail points, shall be as follows: 8.5 Mud cracking When tested in accordance withAnnex D, the surface shall show no mud cracking. 8.6 Sieve residue When tested in accordance withAnnex E, the paint shall have a sieve residue of not more than 1g/l. 8.7 Specular gloss When tes

29、ted in accordance with BS 3900-D5:1980 using 85 geometry, paint designated as matt shall have a value of specular gloss of less than 15units. Paint designated as mid-sheen shall have a value of specular gloss in the range 10units to 55units using 60 geometry. 8.8 Wet adhesion (type C paint only) Whe

30、n tested in accordance with Annex F, the film shall show no blistering, softening, staining, removal or other defect. The loss of adhesion when assessed in accordance with clause 8 of BS3900-E6:1992, shall not be worse than classification 1. 8.9 Resistance to fungal growth (fungicidal paints only) W

31、hen the paint applied by brush application to a plaster panel is tested and assessed in accordance with BS 3900-G6:1989, the fungal growth shall not be worse than rating 1. Type General description Characteristics and usage Colour availability A General purpose; protective and decorative (matt or mi

32、d-sheen) Decorative and protective in function. Good durability and wearing properties in most conditions. Choice of sheen level may depend on location and aesthetic considerations, but, in general terms, washability increases with the level of sheen Wide range is usually available B Low wear resist

33、ance (matt) For use as first decoration of porous substrates containing moisture a . Can also be used for areas of low wear needing high obliteration e.g. ceilings. Higher pigmentation gives increased hiding power and porosity compared with type A but at the expense of reduction in washability. Fini

37、I 03-1999 3 9 Marking The containers of paint shall be clearly marked with the following information: a) the manufacturers name, trademark and product designation; b) the colour and, if appropriate, the colour code in accordance with BS4800:1989; c) the surface sheen description, i.e. matt or mid-sh

38、een; d) the method of application together with any recommendation for thinning; e) the recommended spreading rate expressed in square metres per litre; f) the number and date of this British Standard and the type, i.e.: BS7719:1994: type A 1) ; g) the batch number and/or date of manufacture. 1) Mar

39、king BS7719:1994 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is solely the claimants responsibility. Such a declaration is not

40、to be confused with third party certification of conformity, which may also be desirable.BS 7719:1994 4 BSI 03-1999 Annex A (normative) Method of test for low temperature film formation A.1 Apparatus and materials A.1.1 Black plastic panel, of minimum size150mm 100mm. A.1.2 Bar or block applicator,

41、capable of applying the paint to the test panel to produce a film with a dry film thickness of (35 5) m. A.1.3 Drying cabinet or constant temperature room, maintained at a temperature of (5 1) C and a relative humidity of (50 5)%. A.1.4 Magnifying glass, of 10 magnification. A.2 Preparation of test

42、panels A.2.1 Place the paint under test, a plastic panel(A.1.1) and bar or block applicator (A.1.2) in the drying cabinet (A.1.3) at (5 1) C overnight. A.2.2 Remove from the drying cabinet and immediately apply the paint under test to the panel using the bar or block applicator to give a coated area

43、 of at least 150mm 100mm. A.2.3 Place the wet test panel in the drying cabinet (or constant temperature room) on a horizontal surface and leave undisturbed for 48h under these conditions. Ensure good air circulation is maintained in the cabinet throughout this time. A.3 Assessment of test panel A.3.

44、1 Remove the dried panel from the drying cabinet and visually inspect for signs of uniform film cracking under 10 magnification (A.1.4). A.3.2 Report any film cracking observed. Annex B (normative) Method for the determination of appearance and opacity B.1 Apparatus and materials B.1.1 Gypsum wall b

45、oard panel, conforming to BS1230-1:1985, having dimensions approximately1.2m 1.2m 9mm; the face designed to receive decoration shall be used for the test. B.1.2 Black ink, conforming to BS3484-1:1991 2)drawing ink “A”. B.1.3 Pure bristle paint brush, approximately75mm wide. B.1.4 Lambswool paint rol

46、ler, approximately150mm wide. B.1.5 Waterproof adhesive masking tape. B.2 Preparation of the panel for painting B.2.1 For the preparation and painting of panels, carry out all procedures at a temperature of(23 2)C and at a relative humidity of (50 5)%. B.2.2 Take a new gypsum wall board panel (B.1.1

47、) and seal the edges with a waterproof adhesive masking tape (B.1.5). B.2.3 Using the ink (B.1.2) paint a vertical strip(100 10)mm wide the full length of the panel,(550 10)mm from the edge of the panel. Allow the ink to dry for at least 24h. B.3 Procedure B.3.1 Place the panel in an upright positio

48、n with the ink line vertical. Using either a clean 75mm brush(B.1.3) or a 150mm lambswool roller (B.1.4), coat the panel using a random application technique, making no attempt to lay off in any one direction, with a sealing coat prepared by thinning the paint under test not more than 20% (V/V) with

49、 water as recommended by the manufacturer. Apply the paint at a spreading rate of not more than20m 2 /l of thinned paint. Note any difficulties in application and allow the paint to dry for 2h with the panel in a vertical position. B.3.2 At the end of this period, using a clean75mm brush, or a 150mm lambswool roller, coat the panel using a random application technique, making no attempt to lay off in any one direction, with the paint under test thinned not more than 10% (V/V) with water as recommended by the manufa
