It is

12、a new standard replacing BS461:1970 which is withdrawn. This standard forms one of a series of specifications which deal with terminal fittings for steel wire ropes. A Bordeaux connection is a convenient fitting for the attachment of a wire rope to a chain or link, or to another wire rope, where the

13、 joined members are to run over a suitable sheave, as in the case of grabbing cranes. This revision is a metric version of the 1958 edition of BS 461 having the following basic changes incorporated. a) The 1958 Bordeaux connection was designed for ropes having breaking loads significantly lower than

14、 those now in current use. Accordingly the connection has been redesigned, particularly the link, to be suitable for higher tensile ropes to BS 302-2. b) The nominal size of Bordeaux connection is based on the nominal diameter of wire rope for which it was designed not on the safe working load (SWL)

15、. c) The material used for the link was BS 970 grade En 5a in the 1958 edition of BS 461 and in the 1970 edition it was to BS 970-1 steel designations 060A27 or 080A30 or 150M19. Calculations undertaken in a design study by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) indicated that these were inadequate

16、when Bordeaux connections were associated with higher tensile ropes of grade1770 N/mm 2 . Accordingly steel to BS 970-1 designation 605M36 in the hardened or tempered condition was chosen. While the heat treatment temperatures suitable for the steel links differ slightly from those appropriate for t

17、he steel castings, it is for practical reasons, considered permissible to heat treat the combined assembly in one operation. Although cast steel is specified for the rope portion of the Bordeaux connection, other materials such as phosphor bronze, aluminium bronze, etc., can give satisfactory servic

18、e provided that all other requirements of the standard are met. The use of the term “British Standard Bordeaux connection” is, however, restricted to Bordeaux connections complying in all respects with the requirements specified in this standard. Details of grab shackles for use with Bordeaux connec

19、tions are given in Appendix A. In view of the severe working conditions to which Bordeaux connections are subjected, it is necessary that particular inspection be given to them in service. Guidance on selection, use and in-service inspection is given in Appendix H. Additional information, which it i

20、s felt will be helpful to the user, is given in Appendix B to Appendix G as follows. Purchasers ordering Bordeaux connections to BS 7167 are advised to specify in their purchasing contract that the manufacturer operate a quality system in accordance with the appropriate part of BS 5750 or suitable e

21、quivalent to assure themselves that products claimed to comply with BS 7167 consistently achieve the required level of quality. 23、a design study carried out at the National Physical Laboratory and funded by the Health and Safety Executive. The cooperation is also acknowledged of the manufacturers of Bordeaux connections. A report covering this design study is available from the National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, Middles

24、ex TW11 0LW, entitled “NPL Report DMAA160 The theoretical background to the revision of BS 461:1970 Specification for Bordeaux connections”. This design study was supplemented by actual testing of and components at the laboratories of the Health and Safety Executive. A report by the Health and Safet

25、y Executive, reference IR/L/ME/88/36 entitled “Revision of BS 461 Bordeaux connections Deformation measurements on samples made to modified design”, gives the results of proving tests carried out on components made to this British Standard. The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry accepts no re

29、s, marking and manufacturers certificates of Bordeaux connections having safe working loads from 2.16 t to 15.7 t, suitable for the attachment of wire ropes of 13 mm diameter to 35 mm diameter inclusive, to chain end links or to other ropes. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this Bri

30、tishStandard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definition For the purposes of this British Standard the following definition applies. rope portion the steel casting around which the wire rope passes 3 Nominal size The nominal size of a Bordeaux connection shall be designated by the diameter of

31、the wire rope for which it has been designed. For an intermediate size of wire rope, the next larger size of Bordeaux connection shall be used. 4 Materials 4.1 Rope portion The rope portion of each Bordeaux connection shall be a steel casting complying with BS 3100 steel A2 or A3 in the hardened and

32、 tempered condition. 4.2 Link The material used in the manufacture of Bordeaux connection links shall comply with the requirements specified in BS 970-1 for steel grade 605M36 in the “R” condition, i.e. hardened and tempered. 5 Form and dimensions The form of Bordeaux connections shall be as shown i

33、n Figure 1 and the dimensions of the rope portion and the link shall comply with the values given in Table 1. 6 Grab shackles The form of grab shackles to be used in conjunction with Bordeaux connections shall be as shown in Appendix A. The dimensions of grab shackles shall comply with the values gi

34、ven in Table 7. In all other respects the grab shackles shall comply with the requirements of BS 6994. 7 Tolerances 7.1 Rope portion The tolerances on the dimensions given in Table 1 shall be as given in Table 2. 7.2 Link The diameter T of the material in the finished link shall not be less than tha

35、t specified in Table 1, and shall not exceed the dimension by more than the permissible oversize given in Table 3. The diameter at the weld shall not exceed the diameter T by more than 7%. The overall breadth of the link at the weld shall not exceed dimension Q (max). The internal length R and inter

36、nal breadth S of the link shall be not less than that given in Table 1, and shall not exceed these dimensions by more than the permissable oversize given in Table 4. 8 Workmanship 8.1 Rope portion The rope portion of the Bordeaux connection shall be a clean casting free from roughness and sharp edge

37、s liable to damage the wire rope; particularly at the apex of the taper of the rope groove and at the interior of the eye in contact with the link, both of which shall be smoothly finished. 8.2 Link The link shall be welded by one of the following methods: a) electric resistance butt-welding; b) fla

38、sh butt-welding. The weld shall be smoothly finished all round and care shall be taken to avoid porosity and to ensure penetration and fusion throughout. The rope portion and the link of the Bordeaux connection shall work smoothly and freely throughout their entire range of designed mutual movement.

39、 9 Heat treatment The assembled rope portion and link shall be heated to between 830 C and 860 C, quenched in oil and tempered between 550 C and 680 C to give the appropriate mechanical properties given in BS 970-1 for steel grade 605M36 condition R.BS 7167:1990 2 BSI 09-1999 Table 1 Bordeaux connec

44、 10 Condition The finished Bordeaux connection shall be clean and free from coating of any description. NOTEIf a finish such as zinc coating (galvanizing) is required by the purchaser as an additional requirement this should be stated on his enquiry and order and subject to an agreement with the man

45、ufacturer/supplier. Table 5 Proof loads and safe working loads Table 6 Sizes of mark 11 Proof loading Each Bordeaux connection shall, after manufacture and subsequent heat treatment, be subjected to the proof load specified in Table 5. The link shall not show a visible permanent set of more than 1%

46、of the mean breadth. After determination of the permanent set, if any, each rope portion casting and link shall pass the proof test if no flaw or defect is found on inspection by a competent person. 12 Marking 12.1 Quality marking 12.1.1 Marking Each link shall be legibly and permanently stamped on

47、the straight sides of the link with the mark “S” which shall be enclosed in a circle.
