9、of the Elements and Components (of Diverse Materials) for Buildings Standards Committee. This standard supersedes the requirements of clause4 of BS743:1970 as amended in March1978. The intention is to cover the different damp-proof course materials in BS743 by publishing new British Standards or ame
10、nding existing British Standards, after which BS743 will be withdrawn. Research is in progress to develop test methods as a basis for a future performance based specification for damp-proof courses (d.p.c.s). (See DD86.) Until suitable performance criteria have been evolved it will not be possible t
11、o include high bond materials in standards for d.p.c.s. However, provisional recommendations are given in Appendix C. For guidance on use of bitumen d.p.c.s see Appendix B. Further information is given in BS5628-1 and CP121-1. Certification. Attention is drawn to the certification facilities describ
12、ed on the inside back cover of this standard. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. 14、ide front cover.BS6398:1983 BSI 04-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for materials and assembly of bitumen damp-proof courses (d.p.c.s) and gives a classification of suchd.p.c.s according to the type(s) of base material they contain. (See Table 1.) The d.p.c.s covered by th
15、is standard are intended for use in masonry constructions. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this standard the definitions given in BS3589 apply together with the following. nominal mass per unit are
16、a a numerical designation of the mass per unit area of a material which is a convenient round number approximately equal to the actual mass per unit area expressed in kg/m 2 3 Classification Bitumen damp-proof courses shall be classified as given in columns1 and2 of Table 1. 4 Base materials 4.1 Min
17、imum mass. When measured as described inA.3 the mass per unit area of the base material shall be not less than the value for the appropriate class of d.p.c. given in column4 of Table 1. 4.2 Hessian. The hessian base shall consist of a single layer of plain woven jute cloth. 4.3 Fibre. The fibre base
18、 shall consist of one or more absorbent sheets of felt made from a mixture of animal and vegetable fibres. The base for class B d.p.c.s shall be made of one sheet whilst the base for class E d.p.c.s shall be made of one or two sheets. 4.4 Asbestos. The asbestos base shall consist of an absorbent she
19、et containing not less than80% asbestos. The percentage of asbestos shall be determined by weighing the residue after ignition of the asbestos base at450C for2h. 4.5 Lead. The lead sheeting shall be a continuous sheet or consist of sheets of lead joined together with soldered joints and shall extend
20、 the full width and length of the finished d.p.c. 5 Bituminous materials and fillers 5.1 Minimum mass. When measured as described inA.2 the mass per unit area of bitumen shall be not less than the value for the appropriate class of d.p.c. given in column5 of Table 1. 5.2 Saturating material. The sat
21、urating material shall consist of bitumen having a penetration within the range 60 to230 inclusive at25C when tested as described in BS4691. 5.3 Coating material 5.3.1 General 5.3.1.1 The coating material shall consist of oxidized bitumen stabilized by mineral filler (see5.3.2) and finished with a s
22、urfacing material (see5.3.3). The mass per unit area of mineral filler and surfacing material shall be within the range given for the appropriate class in column6 of Table 1. 5.3.1.2 When measured as described in BS4692 the softening point of the oxidized bitumen before adding the filler and surfaci
23、ng material shall be within the range 80C to120C. 5.3.1.3 When measured as described in BS4692 the softening point of the finished coating material shall not exceed the softening point of the oxidized bitumen by more than20C. 5.3.2 Mineral filler. The filler shall consist of mineral granules or othe
24、r mineral matter. Not less than99% by mass of filler shall pass a4254m mesh sieve complying with BS410 and not less than50% by mass shall pass a 2124m mesh sieve complying with BS410. 5.3.3 Surfacing material. The surfacing material shall consist of natural sand, mineral granules or other material w
