BSI 02-2000 1 BS 6183-1:2000 Introduction Protective equipment is worn by cricketers to reduce the severity of injuries from accidental impact by cricket balls. Batsmen

12、are particularly exposed to balls coming off the pitch at unexpected angles, and their hands are vulnerable to crushing against the bat handle. The level of protection required depends on the skill and strength of the player and the opposing team. This British Standard is divided into five parts as

13、follows: Part 1: General requirements; Part 2: Genital protectors; Part 3: Leg protectors for batsmen, wicket keepers and fielders; thigh, arm and chest protectors; Part 4: Gloves for batsmen; Part 5: Gloves for wicket keepers. NOTE Attention is drawn to BS 7928, Head protectors for cricketers. 1 Sc

17、n and anthropometric surveys Body dimensions. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the following definitions apply. 3.1 General 3.1.1 protective equipment clothing and specific devices worn on the body, hands and feet, intended to reduce the severity of injuries from cricket ball

18、s 3.1.2 zone of protection area of protective equipment intended to provide protection, and subject to specific testing 3.1.3 coverage area of the body covered by the entire protective equipment and its attachments 3.1.4 performance level number designating the category of protection of a product NO

19、TE 1 The performance level is used to designate the test severity for the product. For guidance the following interpretations are provided: level 1: products offering the least protection, that should be suitable for pre-adolescents of limited physical strength; level 2: products offering moderate p

20、rotection, that should be suitable for adults of normal strength; level 3: products offering higher protection, that should be suitable for players in teams of physically highly trained players competing at the highest level; level 4: products offering the highest specified protection, providing enh

21、anced impact protection for fingers of the lower held hand (gloves for batsmen only). NOTE 2 The skill of the player and level of strength of the other team determines the performance level of equipment suitable for the player. Skilled players may choose products offering less protection if they jud

22、ge their risk of injury is reduced by their skill. NOTE 3 Only two levels of performance are specified for wicket keepers gloves. The most skilled wicket keepers, even in high level games, may choose level 1 gloves; and novice wicket keepers may choose higher protection level 2 gloves. 3.2 Protectiv

23、e equipment 3.2.1 chest protector device worn by batsmen mainly to provide coverage to the anterior and lateral aspects of the chest, facing the bowler 3.2.2 forearm protector/forearm/elbow protector device worn by batsmen to provide coverage to the forearm facing the bowler or forearm/elbow facing

24、the bowler 3.2.3 genital protector device worn to provide coverage to the genitals of male and female players NOTE Genital protectors can be hard or soft. Hard genital protectors are commonly known as “boxes”. Soft genital protectors contain foam and are sometimes preferred to hard genital protector

26、loves, primarily intended as catching aids NOTE Gloves for wicket keepers are designed mainly to aid secure catching. Protective characteristics are however integral to this function as novice wicket keepers may be encouraged to catch with confidence with sufficient protection. 3.2.6 leg protector d

27、evice worn by batsmen, wicket keepers and some close fielders, to provide coverage to knees, shins and ankles 3.2.7 thigh protector device worn to provide coverage to the outside and/or inside of a batsmans thighs 3.3 Hands and gloves The definitions in BS EN 1082-1 apply. 3.4 Body dimensions 3.4.1

28、stature (height) vertical distance between the top of the players head and the ground, with the player standing upright with feet together, without shoes 3.4.2 chest girth maximum horizontal girth during normal breathing, measured over the scapulae, under the armpits and across the chest, with the p

29、layer standing upright 3.4.3 bust girth maximum horizontal girth during normal breathing, measured over the scapulae, under the armpits and across the breasts, with the player standing upright in normal underclothing 3.4.4 under bust girth horizontal girth measured as for bust girth (3.4.3), but imm

31、r a player of 178 cm in height, and should be scaled accordingly for players of different heights. 3.4.6 waist to waist over the shoulder length maximum length measured from the plane of the waist, as defined in 3.4.5, at a point 90 mm lateral to the midline of the body, over the chest (or bust) to

32、the shoulder, midway between the point of the shoulder and the neck, and down to the plane of the waist on the other side of the body, following the shortest distance to a point 90 mm lateral to the midline of the body, with the player in normal underclothing NOTE The 90 mm dimension is for a player

33、 with a waist girth of 85 cm, and should be scaled accordingly for players of different measurements. 4 Requirements 4.1 General Protective equipment for cricketers shall conform to 4.2 to 4.5 (for general safety in use and fitness for purpose), and to specific requirements specified in other parts

34、of this British Standard as appropriate. 4.2 Chemical safety NOTE For additional information on the responsibilities of manufacturers and suppliers with specific reference to the safety of products sourced in a supply chain, see annex A. Protective clothing and protective equipment shall be of mater

35、ials that have been shown to be chemically suitable for purpose (i.e. materials in contact with skin shall not contain toxic, carcinogenic, allergenic, or otherwise harmful substances that could be released under the foreseen conditions of normal use and that could adversely affect the user). Protec

36、tive clothing and equipment shall not degrade through use or ageing to release any harmful substances. In particular, plasticizers, unreacted components, heavy metals, and impurities, and harmful pigments and dyes shall not be present, and no leaching or reaction of any constituent shall be observed

37、 during prolonged immersion in aqueous solutions of pH between 3.0 and 8.5. Verification of chemical safety shall be carried out in accordance with 5.4. Records shall be maintained to enable tracing of all constituents of components of protective equipment to particular batches or deliveries of chem

38、icals. Certificates of conformity to a stated specification shall be produced if applicable. A statement of the procedures used to ensure traceability of all materials in the products shall be made. 40、06 120 to 132 116 to 128 4.3 Surface condition There shall be no hard or sharp edges, seams, buckles or other protuberances on the surfaces of the products that could harm the player or other players during normal use. Examinations shall be carried out in accordance with 5.5. 4.4 Ergonomic requireme

41、nts Protective equipment for cricketers shall be designed to minimize discomfort and impediment to the player. Designs should permit all normal playing movements. Equipment shall not make accidents such as trips and falls more likely. Equipment shall be assessed in accordance with 5.6. 4.5 Sizing 4.

42、5.1 General Protective equipment for cricketers shall be marked with the size (see clause 6). The size shall be related to the body dimensions of the player, and the relationship shall be explained in the information supplied by the manufacturer (see clause 7). Sizing of the protective equipment sha

43、ll be carried out using the body dimensions in Table 1. NOTE Definitions of body dimensions are given in 3.4 and ISO 8559. Additional dimensions may be used. Chest protectors shall be sized against the players chest or bust girth and waist to waist over the shoulder length. In sizing chest protector

44、s for female players, allowance shall be made for use of a breast protector inside the chest protector. Gloves shall be sized against the players hand length and hand breadth as defined in BS EN 1082-1:1997, Table B.1. Leg protectors, elbow and elbow/forearm protectors and thigh protectors shall be

45、sized against the players stature (height). Genital protectors shall be sized as specified in BS 6183-2. Dimensions of the product, restraint systems and adjustments shall conform, to within 1 %, to the sizes specified in the relevant part of BS 6183. 4.5.2 Nominal sizes of certain products NOTE In

46、addition to sizing based on the players body dimensions (see 3.3), manufacturers may, if appropriate, allocate products to nominal sizes each covering a range of actual sizes. The following ranges and numbers shall be used for nominal sizes. Sizing shall be verified in accordance with 5.6. 5 Test me

47、thods and procedures 5.1 Sampling Test items shall be supplied for testing complete with labels and manufacturers information (clause 7). Products shall be supplied in each size available. 5.2 General examination Each test item shall be inspected for basic construction. Any apparently weak points in

48、 the impact protection shall be marked for subsequent testing. 5.3 Preparation of samples and conditioning Products for testing shall be cleaned five times in accordance with the manufacturers instructions, with thorough drying between each cleaning cycle. Products and test pieces shall be condition

49、ed to (20 2)8C and relative humidity (65 5) % for at least 48 h. Testing shall be carried out in this environment or within 10 min of removal. 5.4 Chemical safety The chemical suitability of constituent materials of protective clothing and protective equipment for cricketers shall be verified either by tests or by examining collated relevant safety data from the following: a) the manufacturers technical file; b) material specifications from producers and certificates of conformity to the specifications; c) safety data sheets relating to
