9、e PH/3/11. It supersedes BS 6183-1:1981, which is withdrawn. This revised edition contains only general requirements applicable to all protectors. Requirements for specific items are given in other parts of this British Standard (see Introduction). A British Standard does not purport to include all

BSI 02-2000 1 BS 6183-1:2000 Introduction Protective equipment is worn by cricketers to reduce the severity of injuries from accidental impact by cricket balls. Batsmen
12、are particularly exposed to balls coming off the pitch at unexpected angles, and their hands are vulnerable to crushing against the bat handle. The level of protection required depends on the skill and strength of the player and the opposing team. This British Standard is divided into five parts as
13、follows: Part 1: General requirements; Part 2: Genital protectors; Part 3: Leg protectors for batsmen, wicket keepers and fielders; thigh, arm and chest protectors; Part 4: Gloves for batsmen; Part 5: Gloves for wicket keepers. NOTE Attention is drawn to BS 7928, Head protectors for cricketers. 1 Sc
14、ope This part of this British Standard gives definitions, general requirements and test methods for protective equipment for cricketers. Requirements for marking and information to be supplied with the equipment are provided. 2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provision

17、n and anthropometric surveys Body dimensions. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the following definitions apply. 3.1 General 3.1.1 protective equipment clothing and specific devices worn on the body, hands and feet, intended to reduce the severity of injuries from cricket ball
18、s 3.1.2 zone of protection area of protective equipment intended to provide protection, and subject to specific testing 3.1.3 coverage area of the body covered by the entire protective equipment and its attachments 3.1.4 performance level number designating the category of protection of a product NO
19、TE 1 The performance level is used to designate the test severity for the product. For guidance the following interpretations are provided: level 1: products offering the least protection, that should be suitable for pre-adolescents of limited physical strength; level 2: products offering moderate p
20、rotection, that should be suitable for adults of normal strength; level 3: products offering higher protection, that should be suitable for players in teams of physically highly trained players competing at the highest level; level 4: products offering the highest specified protection, providing enh
21、anced impact protection for fingers of the lower held hand (gloves for batsmen only). NOTE 2 The skill of the player and level of strength of the other team determines the performance level of equipment suitable for the player. Skilled players may choose products offering less protection if they jud
22、ge their risk of injury is reduced by their skill. NOTE 3 Only two levels of performance are specified for wicket keepers gloves. The most skilled wicket keepers, even in high level games, may choose level 1 gloves; and novice wicket keepers may choose higher protection level 2 gloves. 3.2 Protectiv
23、e equipment 3.2.1 chest protector device worn by batsmen mainly to provide coverage to the anterior and lateral aspects of the chest, facing the bowler 3.2.2 forearm protector/forearm/elbow protector device worn by batsmen to provide coverage to the forearm facing the bowler or forearm/elbow facing
24、the bowler 3.2.3 genital protector device worn to provide coverage to the genitals of male and female players NOTE Genital protectors can be hard or soft. Hard genital protectors are commonly known as “boxes”. Soft genital protectors contain foam and are sometimes preferred to hard genital protector
