16、1, which is withdrawn.This new edition ofBS5871-2 comes into effect on11July2005.This revision providesan update ofthe previous standard and has beenexten dedtocover both the new development of inset live fueleffect gas fires combined withback boilers, fires with a direct flueconnection, and include

17、s requirements for firesinstalledin raisedbuilders openings (hole-in-the-wallfireplaces). In order toimprove the layout of the standard, additional requirements for theinstallation of fire/back boilers and fire/back circulatorsarenow specified in Clauses 15, 16, 17 and18. BS5871continues tocover the

18、 different types offueleffect appliancesin a single seriesof British Standards, as follows: BS5871-1: Gas fires, convector heaters, fire/ back boilers and heating stoves (2nd and 3rdfamily gases). BS5871-2: Inset live fuel effect gas fires of heat input not exceeding 15 kW and fire/ back boilers (2n

19、d and 3rd family gases). BS5871-3: Decorative fuel effect gas appliances of heat input not exceeding 20 kW (2nd and 3rd family gases). BS 5871-4: Independent gas-fired flueless space heaters for nominal heat input not exceeding 6kW (2nd and3rd family gases) (in the course ofpreparation).To identifyw

20、hichpart of BS5871 to use when fitting an appliance whichsimulatesa solid fuel fire, reference should be madetoFigu re 1 whichserves toillustrate appliance types and link them tothe appropriate part ofBS5871. It shouldbe noted that the only fuel effect appliances covered by this partofBS5871 are gas

21、 fires detailed ind) of the commentary and recommendationsonClause 5 of this standard.Themanufacturers instructions supplied with fanned draught appl iances inwhich the fan is either integral with theappliance or with the flue system willmake reference to the appropriate part ofBS5871.It should be n

22、oted that the onlyappliancescovered by this part ofBS5871 arethosethat are“CE” marked. However, BS5871-2 mayalso be referred to f or theinstallation ofused appliances, where appropriate, providing the manufacturers instructions are available. In such circumstances, the installer should satisfy himse

23、lf that the appliance issafe inconstruction and condition, and can be used without constituting a danger. Attention is drawn toClause 5 concerning thisparticular aspect.Arising from European standards harmonization, some BritishStandards appliance specifications are now being replaced by European St

24、andards. Oneconsequenceof this process is that the reference clearance flue flowtest,currently included in some of the British Standards covering the safety ofappliances dealt with byBS5871, will not be given in European appliancestandards. This test has hitherto been used to determine the flue flow

25、, under laboratory conditions, that an appliance will just clear its combustion products. The test has been used as a key factor in determining whether or not certain appliances of 7kW1)heat input or less require purpose provided ventilation for their installation.1) Due to tolerances,this applies t

26、o a heat input of 7kW onboth net and gross calorificvalue.SeeClause 1 , Scope,Note 3.Amendment No. 1 provides advice on the installation of the types of direct flue connection fires known in the trade as “cassette fires”, which may be available with an optional flue kit that allows them to be instal

28、as decided to include the clearance flue te st as an informative annex. It is hopedthat this arrangement will provide Notified Test Houses under the Gas ApplianceDirective with a continuing m eans to evaluateappliancesfor installation withinthe UKwhichclaim that no purpose provided ventilation is ne

29、cessary for their installation. This standard allows manufacturers instructions to spec ify a method ofinstallation, testing,commissioning or maintenancewhichdiffers in points ofdetail from this standard. This reference tomanufacturers in structions isallowedonlywhere it will resultin at least anequ

30、ivalent level of safety. Insuchcircumstances, it is important that the manufacturers instructions are followed.NOTE1In the preparation of this standard, theopportunityhas been taken topresent it inthe format of a practice specification as defined inPD 6501-1. This format allows the requirements of t

36、s .Combined appliances ofthetype where a fire is used in conjunction with a boiler or circulator are alsocovered in so far asthe installation of the combinedappli ance is concerned.The standard is applicable to appliances intended for installation either:a)within a builders openingand/or fireplace r

37、ecess and which may, additionally, be suitable for installation in a purpose designed metalflue box conforming toBS715 and flue conforming to the constructional and temperature requirements ofBSEN1856-1 andBSEN1856-2; orb)using a direct flueconnection, if specified in the manufacturers instructions;

38、 orc)in the case of a room sealed appliance, using a flue terminal/air duct assemb ly supplied by theappliance manufacturer.This standard covers the selection ofa suitable appliance, the ventilation and flueing requirements, andother measures necessary to ensure a safe installation.The central heati
