3、 comment 80/35402 DC ISBN 0 580 12394 4 Foreword This code of practice has been prepared under the direction of the Clothing Standards Committee at the request of representatives of consumer bodies, retailers and the footwear industry with the object of regularizing procedures for those wear trials
4、of footwear designed to evaluate new making processes, materials and components, design and constructional features, styles, etc., by direct comparison with footwear of an established performance. Typically, such a wear trial is used to evaluate a new upper or soling material, to relate wear perform
5、ance and characteristics to laboratory testing results or to determine the effect of a change of component or other process variation. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.

9、atures, styles, etc., by comparing their performance in wear directly with similar footwear of known or established performance. This code defines the comparative trial of new versus established footwear, either concurrently within the same pair of footwear or consecutively between pairs under simil
10、ar conditions of use. Wear trials designed to identify major weaknesses in design or construction and fitness-for-purpose are covered in BS5131-6.2. 2 Reference This Section refers to the following standards publication: BS5131, Methods of test for footwear and footwear materials Section 6.2 Code of
11、 practice for the identification in footwear trials of major weaknesses in design or construction and the assessment of fitness-for-purpose. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this Section of BS5131, the following definitions apply. 3.1 footwear all types of boots, shoes, sandals, slippers, etc. 3.2
12、subjects the wearers of the footwear for the duration of the trial 3.3 new footwear footwear, made to be compared with the control footwear in the wear trial, which incorporates the new materials, processes, etc. 3.4 new material, process, etc. a material, process, etc.which has not previously been
13、used in the application by the individual conducting the trial. It is not necessarily novel to the trade as a whole 3.5 control footwear made up in an established manner with materials, etc.of a known performance 3.6 variation each individual change or difference from the control, incorporated in th
14、e new footwear 4 Recommendations for the conduct of the trial 4.1 In appropriate cases more than one variation may, or of necessity will, be incorporated in the new footwear, but care should be taken not to involve variations which could have an unwanted interactive effect. Each variation being inve
15、stigated in the new footwear should be worn directly against the control or at least against footwear incorporating another variation which has, in turn, been worn directly against the control. 4.2 The total pairage(new plus control) should depend on the commercial risks involved but should not be l
16、ess than four pairs per comparison, distributed to not less than two subjects. 4.3 Subjects should be selected who can be relied upon to wear and return the footwear as requested. 4.4 Subjects whose present footwear shows signs of an abnormal wear pattern should be rejected. 4.5 Subjects selected sh
17、ould be of the sex, approximate age and occupation appropriate to the intended use of the footwear. Footwear intended for special purposes or activities, e.g.football boots, should be worn only by subjects engaged in such activity during the trial period. 4.6 The footwear should be fitted to the sub
18、jects to a commercial standard. It is important to achieve a good standard of fit in order to ensure meaningful results from the trial. NOTEWhere appropriate, hosiery should be worn both at fitting and during the course of the trial. Where an effect such as colour transfer from the footwear is an im
19、portant consideration white hose should be worn. It is then necessary to examine and assess the staining of the hose after single wear periods using the scoring system of5.2. 4.7 Pairing of footwear should be done according toa), b) or c) below. a) Where the variation(s) being considered allow it, o
20、ne half of each pair should be the new and the other half the control and both should be worn simultaneously by each subject. In order to balance out variation in performance due to an overall left or right foot bias, in half the subjects the control should be on the left foot and in the other half
