This Section descr

7、ibes a number of environmental storage conditions which may be used in the laboratory for the treatment of prepared adhesive joints in order to simulate the deterioration which may occur in practice. 2 References This Section refers to the following standards publications: BS3978, Water for laborato

BS5131-1.1.3, Preparation of test assemblies for adhesion test. 3 Principle Test joints prepared under controlled conditions in the laboratory are

9、subjected to the selected environmental storage condition. After the storage period the peel strength and/or heat resistance are determined, as appropriate, and compared with the values obtained for test pieces which have not been subjected to the environmental conditions. These properties can be me

10、asured immediately on removal from the storage conditions or after pre-conditioning in an atmosphere at20 2 C and652% relative humidity, depending on the nature of the test. 4 Preparation of test joints For each form of test (i.e.heat resistance or peel), the standard number of test assemblies, as g

11、iven in BS5131-1.1.1 and BS5131-1.1.2 is required for: a) each environmental storage condition; b) a control test without environmental treatment. NOTETesting immediately after removal from a storage condition, as in5.2 and5.4, and testing after reconditioning, each require the standard number of te

12、st assemblies. Prepare the test assemblies as described in BS5131-1.1.3. Condition them and cut out the test joints as described in BS5131-1.1.1 and BS5131-1.1.2. Select the cut out test joints so that the two joints from an assembly are not both allocated to the same environmental treatment or to c

13、ontrol tests. 5 Environmental storage conditions and test procedures 5.1 General. The storage conditions covered are described in5.2, 5.3 and5.4. Carry out the subsequent heat resistance (creep) or peel tests as described in BS5131-1.1.1 and BS5131-1.1.2 respectively. 5.2 Water. Wetting a sole bond

14、(as in wear) usually produces some loss of strength and the bond may not recover all of its original strength on drying. Consequently the measurement of peeling force under wet conditions and after drying is informative. The measurement of heat resistance (creep) might in some cases also be useful.

15、Immerse the test joints in distilled water, complying with the requirements of BS3978, for6 0.5h, at20 2 C. Partially evacuate the system down to a pressure of about5kPa for the first3min until the air is substantially removed, to assist wetting of the adherends. Remove all the test joints from the

16、water and test half of the peeling joints immediately. Dry the remainder of the joints at20 2 C and652% relative humidity for48h and then carry out the remaining peel tests, and the heat resistance test if this is being done. 5.3 Heat ageing. This treatment is not a heat resistance test but simulate

17、s the long term changes in adhesive bonds at normal temperatures. These changes include the effect of migration of constituents of the adherends to the adhesive and changes in the constituents of the adhesive itself. The use of heat serves to accelerate these effects. Peel and heat resistance tests

18、after the treatment are both appropriate to measure possible deterioration. Store the test joints in a thermostatically controlled air oven set at50 2 C. Remove them after fourteen days and store at20 2 C and65 2% relative humidity for48h before testing. 5.4 High humidity ageing. This test reproduce

19、s the effect of prolonged warm damp environmental conditions (as in the tropics) on the bond. Peeling tests whilst still damp and after drying, and heat resistance tests after drying are all appropriate for detecting any deterioration of the bond. Store the test joints for28days at40 2 C and between

20、95% and98% relative humidity. Test half the peeling joints immediately after removing them from this atmosphere. Recondition the other joints including all those for the heat resistance tests, for48h at20 2 C and65 2% relative humidity before testing them.BS5131-1.6:1979 2 BSI 11-1999 6 Test report

21、Include the following items in the test report: a) the results of the peel and/or heat resistance test after each environmental storage treatment used; b) the equivalent results for the test joints not subjected to any environmental storage treatments; c) the other information which the heat resista
