13、ch is now withdrawn. The first edition introduced a complete new range of metric dimensioned rivets based on the shank diameter being controlled by the nominal diameter of the component hole. As this necessitated a complete change in tooling for manufacturers and users of automatic feed setting mach
14、ines, and differed from other male fastener dimensioning systems, it proved unacceptable in practice. This revision closely relates to the original practice on which Parts2 and3 of BS1855 were based when they were withdrawn in1973. In addition the shank diameters and the diameter range have been ali
15、gned with ISO1051:1969 “Rivet shank diameters (diameter range1 to36mm)” published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Taper tube rivets were shown as an alternative to the parallel tube but were not dimensioned in the1973 edition. Because of the various hole shapes available
16、 taper tube rivets have been excluded from this revision. In compiling this standard, process capability studies have been made to ensure that the specified tolerances are practicable both for manufacturing purposes and use. Appendix B gives recommendations for the holes, counterbores and clinch siz
17、es. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. 19、 Scope This British Standard specifies the materials and dimensions for semi-tubular oval head bevel countersunk head and countersunk head rivets for use in general purpose applications. The rivets are suitable for joining metallic and non-metallic materials, or a combination thereof. 2 References T
20、he titles of the standards publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the following definitions apply. 3.1 nominal length of rivets (other than bevel countersunk and countersunk head). The length from the un
21、derside of the head to the end of the shank 3.2 nominal length of bevel countersunk and countersunk head rivets the distance from the top of the head to the end of the shank 3.3 plain condition condition after process to remove surplus lubricants 4 Workmanship The rivets shall be well furnished and
22、free from burrs and harmful defects. The heads and shank holes shall be well formed and the rivets shall conform with the details and dimensions given in Figure 1 and Table 1. 5 Radius under the head 5.1 In all styles of rivets, there shall be a small radius or chamfer at the junction of the head an
23、d shank. The minimum radius shall be as specified in Table 1. 5.2 The radius under the head of the rivet shall run smoothly into the face of the head and shank without any step or discontinuity. 6 Dimensions and tolerances The dimensions and tolerances shall be in accordance with Table 1. 24、mensioning terms and the dimensional relationships are given in Appendix A. 7 Tubes For short rivets the tube depth, including point, shall be reduced to a nominal0.8mm shorter than the shank length. 8 Lengths The standard length range shall be from1 times to6 times “ds” the shank diameter.
