It takes account of Amendment SlipNo.1

10、, 1972 (AMD 1064) and of Amendment Slip No.2, 1973 (AMD 1218). It is being published in a number of Sections as follows. Part 1: Requirements for systems with audible signalling only; Section 1.1: Installation; Section 1.2: Maintenance and records Part 2: Requirements for systems with remote signall

11、ing; Section 2.1: Installation; Section 2.2: Maintenance and records; Part 3: Requirements for detection devices, consisting of a number of separate Sections (3.1, 3.2, 3.3 etc.). BS4737-3.1:1977 BSI 12-1998 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for continuous wiring used as a detection device in intruder alarm systems in buildings. 2 References The titles of the standards publications referred to in this standard are given on the inside back cover. 3

15、 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the following definition applies in addition to those given inBS4737-2.1. 3.1 continuous wiring a detection device, consisting of taut wires, designed to generate an alarm condition when the wiring is broken 4 Circuit configuration and performa

16、nce Continuous wiring shall be in the form of a double-pole circuit. It shall either be designed to generate an alarm condition when adjacent wires are short-circuited, or it shall be designed to generate an alarm condition when alternate wires are short-circuited. It is permissible for these two de

17、signs to be used in association. An alarm condition shall be generated when any wire is open-circuited. 5 Material requirements Each wire shall consist of a hard drawn copper conductor having a nominal diameter not less than0.3mm and not more than0.4mm, or other conductor of equivalent mechanical st

18、rength, covered with PVC insulation complying with the requirements of BS6746 and having a radial thickness not less than0.2mm and not more than0.3mm, or other suitable insulation of equivalent mechanical properties. 6 Fixing 6.1 Directly-attached continuous wiring. Where continuous wiring is direct

19、ly attached to the surface to be protected, it shall be fixed as tautly as practicable. Each wire shall be fixed at intervals not exceeding 600mm, by means of corrosion-resisting staples to timber or other material which adequately retains the staples. An alternative method of fixing may be used, pr

20、ovided it offers at least equivalent mechanical strength. The method of fixing shall not normally be visible from the reverse side of the material to which the wiring is attached. The spacing between adjacent wires shall not exceed 100mm. The wiring shall be protected from damage due to rough surfac

21、es, projections and rough edges. Where it would otherwise be liable to mechanical damage, it shall be covered with hardboard or other suitable protective material. Where two layers of continuous wiring are used, each layer shall meet the requirements of this British Standard, the conductors in the t

22、wo layers shall be approximately at right angles and the fixings shall be far enough from the crossing points to avoid mechanical damage. NOTESuch a double layer of continuous wiring is commonly called transverse wiring. 6.2 Continuous wiring in tubes or in grooved rods. Where continuous wiring is i

23、n tubes or in grooved rods, it shall be fixed as tautly as practicable. Each tube or rod shall be not more than1m long, and the spacing between adjacent tubes or rods shall not exceed 100mm between centres. The tubes or rods shall be of rigid material and shall be recessed into supports by not less

24、than5mm and not more than 10mm at each end. Each wire shall be fixed not more than 50mm from the end of the tube or rod, by means of corrosion-resisting staples, to supports of timber or other material which adequately retains the staples. An alternative method of fixing may be used, provided it off
