It supersedes BS 2SP 168-169:1985, which is withdrawn. This new edition reverses the precedence of material and plating requirements. This new edition

7、 of BS SP 168-169 incorporates technical changes only. It does not reflect a full review or revision of the standard, which will be undertaken in due course. This new edition specifies ferrules and assembly wires made from stainless steel, which is the standard material of manufacture. Ferrules made

8、 from high tensile steel and assembly wires made from mild steel are available to the purchaser only if specified in a special order. WARNING. 11、SI 27 September 2002 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies the materials, dimensions and finish for steel wire ferrules (BS 3SP 168) and associated assembly wires (BS 3SP 169) for use with braided rubber cords conforming to BS F 70 and BS F 71 and for finished assemblies specified in BS SP 170-1

15、Material 3.1 If specified by the purchaser in a special order, ferrules shall be manufactured from high tensile steel wire conforming to BS S 201. Otherwise, ferrules shall be manufactured from stainless steel wire, conforming to BS S 205. 3.2 If specified by the purchaser in a special order, assemb

16、ly wires shall be manufactured from mild steel wire conforming to BS 1052. Otherwise, assembly wires shall be manufactured from annealed stainless steel wire conforming to prEN 2573:1986. 4 Dimensions 4.1 The ferrules and assembly wires shall conform to the dimensions and tolerances given in Table 1

17、 and Figure 1 and Figure 2. 4.2 The coils of the ferrule, after forming, shall be in contact for at least 80 % of the coiled length of the wire. In addition the last two coils at the narrow end shall be in contact. No gap shall be greater than 50 % of the wire diameter. 5 Finish 5.1 Ferrules and ass

18、embly wires manufactured from stainless steel shall not be surface treated. 5.2 After forming, ferrules and assembly wires manufactured from high tensile steel or mild steel shall be cadmium plated in accordance with the requirements of Defence Standard 03-19. 6 Freedom from defects The ferrules and

19、 assembly wires shall be square-cut, and shall be free from burrs and sharp edges.BS 3SP 168-169:2002 2 BSI 27 September 2002 7 Identification Each part shall be identified for ordering purposes by the relevant British Standard number shown below with the appropriate size code letter shown in Table

20、1, together with the suffix letter “S” for stainless steel, or the suffix letter “P” for cadmium plated steel ferrules and assembly wires. 21、For mass production purposes, the shape shown in Figure 2 shall be varied to suit the method of closure, providing that the assemblies conform to the requirements of BS SP 170-171.
