It is a revision of BS3936-2:1978 which is withdrawn. The revision covers the requirem
9、ents of buyers and sellers more fully so that the quality of plants may be improved and includes all types of roses irrespective of the method of propagation or origin. It has been assumed in the drafting of this British Standard that the execution of its provisions is entrusted to appropriately qua
10、lified and experienced people. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of

12、-1999 1 1 Scope This Part of BS3936 specifies requirements for rose plants that are sold for transplanting and growth for amenity purposes. The following types of rose plants (which may be in pots or tubs for outdoor use) are specified, irrespective of the method of propagation: a) bush and shrub ro
13、ses; b) climbing, rambler and pillar roses; c) standard, half-standard and weeping standard roses; d) dwarf roses; e) miniature roses; f) low-growing floribunda roses (patio roses); g) ground cover roses. NOTEBecause of the natural variability of the plants and because the list of available varietie
14、s is constantly changing, this British Standard cannot include a list of varieties corresponding to each type. Roses grown purely for indoor use, e.g.houseplants, are outside the scope of this standard. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS3936 the following definitions apply. 2.1 countr
15、y of origin the country where the plant has grown for the latter half of the most recent growing season 2.2 maiden a plant with one seasons growth from the time of budding, grafting or other method of propagating 2.3 container-grown plants plants which have grown in any type of container (e.g.pot, p
16、lastics bag, peat block) for sufficient time for root growth to have substantially filled the container 2.4 containerized plants plants in containers but which have not been in the container long enough to have made substantial new root growth 3 General 3.1 Age 3.1.1 Plants grown in open ground shal
17、l be maidens. 3.1.2 Containerized plants sold between1April and31October shall have been in the container long enough to have made new fibrous roots and for at least2months. 3.2 Condition 3.2.1 When inspected visually, there shall be no pests or diseases. 3.2.2 Plants shall have been protected from
18、adverse conditions such as waterlogging, frost, heat, exposure to drying winds, or unsuitable storage conditions. If packaged, the packaging shall protect the plants, especially from mechanical damage and drying out without allowing moisture to accumlate. 3.2.3 The roots, and the compost in a contai
19、ner, if used, shall be visibly free of perennial weeds. 3.2.4 Plants shall be materially undamaged. 3.3 Trimming 3.3.1 Damaged or broken roots shall have been pruned to a clean cut. Rootstock snags shall have been removed immediately above the union on budded plants. Dead, damaged or diseased shoots
20、 and foliage shall have been removed. 3.3.2 Immature growth shall have been removed from dormant rose plants. 3.4 Hardiness Plants shall be hardened off, i.e.suitable for planting in the open in normal winter conditions when offered for sale. 4 Bush, shrub, climbing, rambler, pillar and ground cover
21、 roses on rootstocks (seeFigure 1 andFigure 2, except for ground cover roses) 4.1 Rootstocks Rootstocks shall have a diameter of not less than18mm, measured immediately below the union. 4.2 Root systems Plants shall have a developed root system. The root system of a plant grown in open ground shall
