It is the first Part of a complete revision of BS3224. This Part of BS3224 supersedes B
8、S3224-C1:1963 which is withdrawn. Other Parts of this revision are: Part4: Specification for elevated lighting units; Part5: Specification for inset lighting units; Part6: Specification for obstacle lighting units. Attention is drawn particularly to the recommendations and requirements for installat

12、side front cover.BS3224-1:1988 BSI 08-1999 1 1 Scope This Part of BS3224 specifies the essential mechanical and electrical features excluding lamps and describes photometric tests for lighting units for use in precision approach path indicator systems at land aerodromes. Mounting devices are specifi
13、ed in a separate Part of BS3224. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS3224, the following definitions apply. 2.1 PAPI unit a luminaire that produces a part of the signal for the precision
14、 approach path indicator (PAPI) system 2.2 mounting device the means of supporting a PAPI unit 2.3 principal vertical plane the plane of bilateral symmetry of the PAPI unit 2.4 transition plane the plane normal to the principal vertical plane in which the transition from red light to white light occ
15、urs 2.5 transition elevation angle the acute angle that the transition plane makes with the horizontal plane NOTEThe transition elevation angles for a system are determined by the approach slope required. 2.6 flashed area of an optical system in a given direction, the orthogonally projected area wit
16、hin which the luminance exceeds1% of the luminance of the brightest part when viewed at a distance of10m 2.7 optical component any item in the unit used either for producing the light signal or for controlling the signal by means of reflection, refraction, absorption or transmission 2.8 type test a
17、test for the purpose of checking compliance of the design of a given product with the requirements of the relevant specification. Type test samples are selected in agreement with the manufacturer or responsible vendor 3 General test requirements 3.1 The tests described in this standard shall be type
18、 tests (see2.8). 3.2 Except where otherwise specified, units shall be tested in an ambient temperature of between10 C and30 C. The units shall be tested as installed in normal use. The lamp type recommended by the manufacturer shall be used for the test. Tests shall be made on a single sample unit o
19、r, where a range of similar units is involved, on a single unit of each rated wattage in the range or on a representative selection from the range as agreed with the manufacturer. This selection shall include the unit, together with any attachments, which represents the most unfavourable combination
20、 from a testing point of view. Each sample unit shall pass all the relevant tests. Tests shall be carried out in the order given in Table 1. Table 1 Sequence of tests 4 Conditions of use The unit shall be designed for use on supply voltages not greater than50V r.m.s. to earth. NOTE 1The unit should
21、be suitable for use in a range of ambient temperatures from20 C to+ 50 C and relative humidities of up to90%. NOTE 2Due allowance should be made for the effects of solar heating, jet efflux, vibration, dust or sand, condensation, heavy rain, ice, snow, fuels, oils and de-icing agents. NOTE 3The unit
22、 should be designed so that if struck by an aircraft the minimum possible damage to the aircraft is caused. Means of lockable adjustment shall be provided to align the principal vertic
24、al plane to within 2 of arc of the vertical and the required transition elevation angle to within 1 of arc. Provision shall be made to verify the transition elevation angle when the unit has been installed. 5.2 Rigidity 5.2.1 Requirement. When tested in accordance with Table 1, clause3 and5.2.2 the
