13、heels in metric sizes. The tread diameters have been fixed to match up with those for which there is a demand which is now common to the UK and other countries in Europe. The widths between the flanges have been designed to suit a range of crane rails which is currently available in the UK. In other

14、 aspects clearances, flange dimensions, thickness of tyres and machining allowances conform with those in BS3037, with certain dimensions rounded off to suit conversion to metric. The necessary clearances between flanges and the rail have been taken into account. The tyre dimensions specified are fi

15、nished sizes for new tyres (except for the bore, when specified, which may have an allowance for finished machining). Allowance has been made for wear on treads and flanges. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are resp

This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS3037-2:1975 BSI 08-1999 1 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for theprofile of double flanged wheels or tyres with parallel treads and gi

18、ves rolling and machining tolerances to be employed in their manufacture; therange covered is from315mm tread diameter by115mm wide to1 120mm tread diameter by240mm wide. Notes on manufacture are included in Appendix A. Notes on usage are included in Appendix B. 2 Reference The title of the British

19、Standard referred to in this standard is given on the inside back cover. 3 Dimensions 3.1 Range of sizes. Solid wheels or tyres shall be selected from the range of sizes set out in Table 1. Reference numbers for size in the table consist of the dimension of the tyre or solid wheel followed by its wi

20、dth. Only one thickness of tyre tread is specified for each diameter. 3.2 Tolerances. Rolling and machining tolerances are set out in Figure 1. 4 Material Neither the sulphur content nor the phosphorus content of the steel shall exceed0.060%. On request, the manufacturer shall supply the analysis of

21、 each cast for carbon, silicon, manganese, sulphur and phosphorus. A sufficient length shall be discarded from each ingot to ensure freedom from piping or other harmful defects. Each ingot shall be of a length and mass sufficient to produce two or more blanks after the discard has been removed. 5 Fr

22、eedom from defects The wheels or tyres shall be free from harmful defects. 6 Brinell hardness test The manufacturer shall make a Brinell hardness test on each wheel or tyre in accordance with BS240-1. The hardness shall not be less than248HB and unless otherwise specified by the purchaser shall not

23、exceed285HB. The test shall be made on one face of the tyre midway between the tread and the bore (and on solid wheels at an equivalent position with respect to the tread) after not less than5mm has been removed from the rolled surface. On request, the manufacturer shall supply a certificate of the

24、hardness number given by the above test. 7 Retests Should a wheel or tyre fail in the hardness test, the wheel or tyre may be heat treated or re-heat treated and submitted for a further hardness test. 8 Inspection The purchaser or his representative shall have access to the works of the manufacturer

25、 at all reasonable times; he shall be at liberty to inspect the manufacture at any stage. 9 Testing facilities The manufacturer shall supply, at his own cost, the labour and appliances for such testing as may be carried out on his premises in accordance with the standard. Failing facilities at his o

26、wn works for making the prescribed tests, the manufacturer shall bear the cost of carrying out the tests elsewhere. Where special r

31、ails are used (such as bar section) the radii specified may require modification. The crane maker should ensure that adequate running clearance is provided to prevent flange binding, taking into account the end float on the axle and the specified tolerance between the centres of the crane track rail

32、s. The tyres specified are designed for shrinking on the wheel centres and if properly fitted they need no further means of securing. The normal interference fit for shrinkage is0.001mm per millimetre of bore. To ensure that the tyre is located squarely a flange is provided on the wheel centre to ma

33、tch with a corresponding recess in the tyre. There should be a clearance on the diameter between the flange and the recess. The tyres may be supplied with or without heat treatment at the option of the manufacturer. Wheels or tyres supplied to this standard do not require flame hardened treads to gi

34、ve the best results. Where testing for mechanical properties other than hardness is required details of the additional tests and of the samples to be tested should be specified in the enquiry and order. The test pieces should be obtained from the same cast as the wheels or tyres in question. Appendi

35、x B Notes on usage Where two or more wheels are mechanically coupled it is important that the tread diameters are maintained at equal dimensions. Flange life is greatly increased if some form of flange lubrication is introduced. This applies particularly to cranes with roller bearing runners as exce

36、ss lubricant from the bearings does not find its way on to the crane rails. In cases where, because of external causes, flange binding occurs coupled with heavy flange wear a false cone tends to build up on the tread which greatly increases the rate of flange wear. The formation of this false cone c

37、an be delayed by machining a groove between the tread and the root of the flange as shown on Figure 2.
