After being transferred to the Furniture
11、 Standards Committee it was revised by AmendmentNo.1 published in September1981. It covers the types of folders and files commonly used in offices, but does not purport to include items designed for the storage of more specialized documents and continuous stationery. BS5097 gives the requirements fo
12、r loose leaf binders. The standard was first published in1948 and first revised in1957. The second revision in1972 included ISO A4 paper size(210mm 297mm) and deleted all references to traditional British sizes contained in previous editions except for foolscap paper(203mm 330mm). This revision reta
13、ins reference to foolscap paper, although the use of it is decreasing; recognizes that many folders and files are not stored in vertically suspended filing pockets; and brings the dimensions into conformity with general current practice. Because suspended filing pockets form a natural link between f
14、olders and files and filing cabinets, information given about them in BS4438 is repeated in Appendix A of this standard. Care has been taken to avoid a specification which would inhibit freedom of design or the use of new materials and methods. Emphasis has instead been placed on dimensional standar
15、dization although once again the greatest possible freedom is given to meet variations between products from different manufacturers, consistent with ensuring that they provide adequate protection for their contents. Because of the various types and grades of materials employed and the differing use
16、s of the products dealt with, it has not been possible to give any useful overall performance requirements. Users are therefore recommended to satisfy themselves that the product is adequate to the use for which they intend it, related to such factors as likely loading, degree of handling, etc. This
17、 standard is related to ISO623 “Paper and board Folders and files Sizes” and the filing holes specified in this standard conform to those specified in ISO838 “Paper Holes for general filing purposes Specification.” A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a cont
18、ract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. 20、 files, box files and transfer storage cases. Information about suspended filing pockets for standard drawer filing cabinets extracted from BS4438 is given in Appendix A. The spacing and diameter of punched holes (for filing only) are also specified. NOTEThe British Standards referred to in this sta
21、ndard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard, the following definitions apply: 2.1 folder a cover, with either single or multiple folds which may have one edge tabbed. Folders may be provided with gussets, flaps or pockets. Outline drawings of th
22、e most usual types are shown in Figure 1 NOTEBecause the nomenclature for types of folder can vary considerably, the one term “folder” is used throughout this specification to include items sometimes called “wallet”, “portfolio” or “pocket folder”. 2.2 file any type of folder into which has been int
