3、er to transport children or accessory loadswith a maximum weight of 18 kg (40 lb). This specificationdoes not apply to child carriers that mount in front of thehandlebars, or to the top tube, head tube, or behind thehandlebars in front of the rider.NOTE 1In the instructions, the manufacturer must wa
4、rn the rider thata load added to the bicycle will lessen the stability and alter the ridingcharacteristics of the bicycle. This complication is particularly importantwhen riding with children who are near the high end of the weight range.1.2 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thete

Terminology3.1 Definition:3.
8、1.1 bicycle child carriera seating device, the shape ofwhich is adapted to the seated position of a child and mountsto the rear of the bicycle, which keeps the child in acomfortable position during the ride.4. Requirements4.1 GeneralChild carriers shall be designed and manufac-tured in such a way th
9、at components with which the child orrider come into contact do not cause injuries during normaluse, or when used in accordance with the manufacturersinstructions. Surfaces must be free from burrs, sharp edges, andpoints; if such are present they must be covered by protectivecoverings. No openings w
10、ith which the childs hands can comein contact shall have dimensions larger than 6 mm (0.236 in.)but also smaller than 13 mm (0.512 in.), that is, holes withdimensions between 0.236 and 0.512 in. (6 and 13 mm) areforbidden. Child carriers must be equipped with a rear reflector.The manufacturer must w
11、arn the rider that a load added to thebicycle will lessen the stability and alter the riding character-istics of the bicycle.4.2 Structure:4.2.1 AssemblyWhen assembled in accordance with theinstructions provided by the manufacturer, the seat componentsmust be firmly joined and fixed.4.2.2 EquipmentC
12、hild carriers shall be equipped with thefollowing equipment:4.2.2.1 Footrests,4.2.2.2 Backrest,4.2.2.3 Armrests (that may be extensions of the sides of theseat surface),4.2.2.4 Protective devices that prevent contact of hands andfeet with moving or movable components of the bicycle whichcould cause

16、.2.2.5 Belt or other capturing devices designed to restrainthe child from standing in or leaving the carrier. Buckles, ifused, must be difficult for the child passenger to open.4.2.3 AttachmentThe attachment process for connectingthe seat portion of the carrier either to dedicated mountinghardware o
17、r to a luggage carrier, and attachment of themounting hardware or the luggage carrier to the bicycle frame,shall be of a simple and secure procedure. If tools are requiredfor mounting, mounting must be accomplished with commonhousehold tools, and must offer no reasonable opportunity ofincorrect moun
18、ting.4.2.4 Test CriteriaAfter testing in accordance with Sec-tions 5 and 6 of this specification the child carrier shall showno visible signs of fracture, nor any deformation or displace-ment that would impair the function of the child carrier or thebicycle, as defined by the allowable amounts set f
19、orth inSections 5 and 6.4.3 Security of Seat Assembled to Bicycle:4.3.1 If the means of attachment of the carrier to the bicycleis within easy reach of the child, and also is of a type that thechild may be able to loosen, then there shall be a secondarydevice to restrict movement of the carrier, eit
20、her by providingan additional and independent attachment or by ensuring thatloosening the primary attachment will not fully release theconnection.4.3.2 Child carriers that do not attach directly to the bicycleseat tube, such as rack-mounting models, shall have anadditional attachment device connecti
21、ng the seat portion eitherto a frame tube or to the saddle pillar, with sufficient strengthto limit rearward movement of the seat.4.4 Dimensions:4.4.1 Dimensions of the interior of the carrier seating areashall be adequate for the seated child at the upper range of theweight limitation.4.4.2 The bac
22、krest must have a minimum height of 350 mm(13.8 in.).4.4.3 The armrests must be high enough to keep the childstable in lateral directions.4.5 Materials:4.5.1 Plastics or other synthetic materials, if used, shall bestabilized against ultraviolet radiation and resistant to ozone.4.5.2 The carrier shal
23、l be protected against corrosion andtested in accordance with salt spray test defined in PracticeB117, for a period of 96 h. Tested components shall show novisible evidence of corrosion or deterioration which couldjeopardize structural integrity of the entire assembly.The testedunit shall continue t
24、o operate in accordance with the manufac-turers written instructions.5. Environmental Temperature Tests5.1 GeneralPerform the tests in this section on all carriersto determine whether there are any adverse affects on thestrength and function of the carrier under conditioned environ-ments.5.1.1 Condu
