The main disadvantage is that even with this form of ownership, the amount of money available to the business may be limited. If people quarrel or disagree over deci
3、sionmaking there can be problems and serious delays. B Public (Plc) Companies These are the largest businesses in the private sector. There is no limit to the number of people holding shares in it and many of the larger companies have their shares listed on the stock exchange. The advantage of big b
4、usinesses like this is that they find it easier to raise money as banks consider them a “good risk“. There are strict laws governing the setting-up of this kind of business and each year the company has to publish its accounts. The larger such businesses grow, the more difficult it is to control the
5、m. Workers in such businesses may feel that management doesnt understand their problems. C Private (Ltd) Companies Such businesses are not allowed to sell shares to the public. They must consist of at least two members, but there is no upper limit to the numbers who own the company. The larger size
6、makes it possible for such companies to borrow more money from the banks or from issuing additional shares to its members. The advantage is that such a business is able to offer its members limited liability (responsibility) for debts and losses. Many companies of this type exist in England, Europe
7、and the U. A CONDENSED EMPLOYEE LIFE CYCLE An employee life cycle is the steps the employees go through from the ti
10、me they enter a company until they leave. Often Human Resources professionals focus their attention on the steps in this process in hopes of making an impact on the companys bottom line. That is a good thing for them to do. (0) D Employees are one of a companys largest expenses these days. Unlike ot
11、her major capital costs (buildings, machinery, technology, etc.) human capital is highly volatile. You, as a manager, are in a key position to reduce that volatility using the condensed employee life cycle of HIAR (pronounced hire) Hire, Inspire, Admire, and Retire. Hire: This first step is probably
12、 the most important. It is important to hire the best people you can find. (8) The cost of replacing a bad hire far exceeds the marginal additional cost of hiring the best person in the first place. Inspire: Once you have recruited the best employees to come to work on your team, the hard part begin
13、s. You have to inspire them to perform to their capabilities. (9) That is where you will get their best effort and their creativity which will help your organization excel. Admire: Once you have hired the best employees and have challenged and motivated them, you cannot relax. (10) The same attentio
14、n you should pay to their work assignments, to their satisfaction levels, to their sense of being part of a great team needs to continue for as long as they are in your group. As soon as you start to slack off, their satisfaction and motivation will decrease. If you dont do something, they will beco
15、me disenchanted and will leave. They will become part of the “employee turnover“ statistic you were trying to avoid. Retire: This is when you know have been successful. When employees see your company as the employer of choice, they will join you. (11) As long as you continue to inspire, motivate, a
16、nd challenge them, they will continue to contribute at the high levels you need in order to beat your competition. They will be long-term employees even staying with you and your company until they retire. (12) You will attract and retain second and even third generation employees. A This is not a t
17、ime to be cheap. B When they recognize you as a good boss and a real leader, they will stay around. C To the extent that you can be a good boss, you can keep employees, keep them happy, and reduce the costs associated with employee turnover. Very often you find it impossible to escape from some idle chatter-box or from somebody who wants something for nothing. If you h
20、ave a telephone in your own house, you will admit that it tends to ring when you least want it to ring: when you are asleep, or in the middle of a meal or a conversation, or when you are just going out, or when you are in your bath. Are you strong-minded enough to ignore it, to say to yourself, “Ah,
21、 well, it will all be the same in a hundred years time. “ You are not. You think there may be some important news or messages for you. I can assure you that if a message is really important it will reach you sooner or later. Have you ever rushed dripping from the bath, or chewing from the table, or
22、pushed from the bed, only to be told that you are a wrong number? But you will say, you need not have your name printed in the telephone book, and you can have a telephone which is only usable for outgoing calls. Besides, you will say, isnt it important to have a telephone in case of sudden emergenc
23、y illness, accident, or fire? Of course, you are right. But here in a thickly populated country like England, one is seldom far from a telephone in case of dreadful necessity. I think perhaps Id better try to justify myself by trying to prove that what I like is good. I admit that in different circu
24、mstances, if I were a tycoon, for instance, or bedridden I might find a telephone essential. But then if I were a taxi-driver I should find a car essential. Let me put it another way: there are two things for which the English seem to show particular interest: one is mechanical invention, the other
