1、Designation: B 331 95 (Reapproved 2002)Standard Test Method forCompressibility of Metal Powders in Uniaxial Compaction1This standard is issued under the fixed designation B 331; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the y
2、ear of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This test method covers determination of compressibil-ity of metal powders as measured by the extent to which
3、theycan be densified in a specified die under controlled conditions.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. The SI equivalents are in parentheses and maybe approximate.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated wit

6、ethod4.1 The test method consists of compacting a sample ofmetal powder in a confining die, ejecting it from the die, andmeasuring its green density. The powder is subjected touniaxial loading in a standardized die of rectangular or ofround cross section.5. Significance and Use5.1 The compressibilit
7、y obtained is a measure of a materialcharacteristic inherent in the powder. The test method is usefulas a quality control test in the evaluation and manufacturingcontrol of metal powder production, and as an acceptance testfor shipment of metal powder lots.5.2 Results may be affected by test conditi

Apparatus6.1 Die and Two Steel PunchesThe die should be made ofcemented carbide, or alternatively of tool steel. The set may bedesign

Sampling7.1 A quantity of powder capable of producing the requirednumber of test specimens (see 9.1 and Sect
11、ion 11) shall beobtained in accordance with Practices B 215.8. Preparation of Apparatus8.1 Lubrication is necessary to assist the ejection of thecompacted test specimen from the die. Either die wall lubrica-tion or powder lubrication may be used.8.1.1 Unlubricated Powder may be tested in a die withl
12、ubricated walls. Apply to the die walls a mixture of a lubricantin a volatile organic liquid. After any excess liquid has drainedaway, allow the solution adhering to the walls to evaporateleaving a thin layer of lubricant.NOTE 1An example of such a mixture is 100 g of zinc stearate in 1 Lof methyl a

16、8.3 The parties shall agree on the method, amount, and typeof lubricant.9. Procedure9.1 Powder Sample MassThe powder sample mass shallbe such as to result in a rectangular compact 0.240 to 0.260 in.thick (6.1 to 6.6 mm) or a round compact 0.27 to 0.29 in. (6.9to 7.4 mm) thick. For a powder whose com
17、pressibility is notknown, it may be necessary to adjust the powder mass based onthe specimen thickness obtained in an initial test.9.2 CompactionThe specimen shall be made using adouble action pressing process. One example of this type ofcompaction is as follows:9.2.1 Insert the lower punch into the
18、 die cavity. Position thedie cavity to the desired filling height using supporting spacersbetween the die and the lower press platen. Pour the powdersample into the die cavity taking care to ensure that the powderis uniformly distributed. Insert the upper punch and then applyand release a preliminar

Apply the final pressure. InNOTE 1The dimensions for the cavity shall be 0.500 6 0.004 in. wide (12.70 6
