It was subsequentlyreorganized as an ASME

11、 Standards Committee, and its title was changed to Hand Tools andAccessories. In 1996, the Committees scope was expanded to include safety considerations.The purpose of B107.600 is to define essential performance and safety requirements specificallyapplicable to the various screwdrivers covered here

12、in. 21、SME B107.600-2008 (B107.15)FLAT TIP SCREWDRIVERS1 SCOPEThis Standard covers straight handle-type screwdriv-ers of flat tip design intended for manual operation indriving or removing screws with slotted recesses. Thescrewdrivers are of the types normally used by cabinet-makers, carpenters, sheet meta

22、l workers, productionworkers, mechanics, etc. The intention is to specify per-formance rather than design detail.Inclusion of dimensional data in the Standard is notintended to imply that all of the products describedherein are stock production sizes. Consumers arerequestedtoconsultwithmanufacturers

23、concerninglistsof stock production sizes.Using a screwdriver as a pry bar or striking it with ahammer are clearly misuses of the tool, and nothing inthis Standard shall be interpreted as condoning any toolmisuse. Flat tip, flared-sided general purposescrewdrivers are for driving and removing slottedscrews (see Fig. 2).5.2 MaterialsThe materials used in the manufacture of a screw-driver shall be such as to produce products conformingto the requirements of this

34、Standard.5.3 MarkingsScrewdrivers shall be marked in a plain and perma-nent manner with the manufacturers name or with atrademark of such known character that the manufac-turer shall be readily determined. Marking shall be aspermanent as the normal life expectancy of the screw-driver to which it is

35、applied (providing the marked sur-face has not been subjected to a fretting or abradingaction) andbe capableof withstandingthe cleaningpro-cedures normally experienced during its intended use.5.4 Blade5.4.1 General Requirements. Thebladeshallbeheldsecurely in the handle and essentially free from sca

36、le,seams, laps, and cracks, which may adversely affectdurability or serviceability of the tool.5.4.2 Finish. The blade shall be treated in a mannerto resist rust or corrosion. There shall be no evidence ofpeeling or chipping of any coating where applicable.5.4.3 Hardness. The tip portion of the scre

37、wdriversor the entire blade shall be hardened to not less than48 HRC (see para. 6.2).5.4.4 Symmetry. Thetipwidthshallbeperpendicu-lar to the shank axis within 2 deg. The tip thickness3shall be perpendicular to the shank axis within 6 deg.Taper at the tip shall be centered within 5 deg of theshank ax

38、is (see Fig. 3).5.5 Handle5.5.1 General Requirements. The handle shall becapable of withstanding the applicable tests specifiedherein. It shall be suitably finished to provide a comfort-able grip and free from rough edges, sharp corners, ortool marks that affect comfort while using the tool.5.5.2 Cu

39、shion Grip. When furnished with a cushiongrip, the screwdriver will typically resemble that shownin Fig. 4. The grip material shall be capable of meetingthe tests of paras. 6.6 and 6.7 (see section 7 regardinglimitations of use). The durometer hardness shall be amaximum of Shore A 75 (see para. 6.2)

There shall beno detectable slippage between the handle and cushiongrip under normal usage.6 TESTSWARNING: Many tests required herein are inherently hazard-ous, and adequate safeguards for personnel and property shallbe used in conducting such tests.6.1 Hardness TestThe Rockwell hardness test shal

41、l be conducted inaccordance with ASTM E 18. The Shore durometer testshall be conducted in accordance with ASTM D 2240.6.2 Tip Torsional TestThe tip of each sample under test shall be fixtured ina test block of applicable dimensions shown in Table 2and Fig. 5. The test block shall have a hardness of

The torque shall beapplied by forces

49、 acting perpendicular to the long axisof the blade with the tip held securely in the test block.It is permissible to support the blade in a suitable posi-tion for test. The blade shall be restricted from endwisemovement during testing.6.3 Assembly Torsional TestThe test shall be conducted after preheating the entiretool to a uniform temperature of 125F 5F. The torqueshall be applied within 1 min after removing the toolfrom the heating medium. The torque shall be appliedby forces acting at or near the mid
