SCOPE 1.1 Scope

2、.- This specification covers the requirements of the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. 1.2. Classification.- The decorations covered by this specification shall . be of the following types, styles, or components (see 6.2). Type I - Presidential Med

3、al of Freedom with Distinction Type II - Presidential Medal of Freedom- Style 7 - Male Style 2 - Female 1.2.1 Components.- Components covered by this specification shall be classified in the follewing components, classes, and styles (see 6.2). Component A - Shoulder sash with rosette and sash badge.

20、 be manufactured in the same facilities to be used for the manufac- ture of the production items. 3.3 Materials.- Materials chal 1 conform to the referenced specifications 3.3.1 Copper base alloys.- Copper base alloys shall be rolled polished, and to the requirements specified herein. free from pits

21、, scale (including red oxide), dents, nicks, cracks, scratches, segregations, and foreign inclusions that will not be removed in later processing. 24、shall- be 24 karat. 3.3.3 Sterlin silver.- Sterling silver shall contain not less than 92.5 percent -?- pure si ver 3.3.4 -:Solder.- Solder shall be hard solder having a melting point of not 3.3.5 Enamel.- Enamel shall be a hard glass type vitreous enamel fused less than 107mees F. with metallicXEs

25、to produce the required color. 3.3.6 Lac uer.- Lacquer shall be a clear, pale, synthetic lacquer. The use of pigmente a+- acquers shall not be permi tted. 3.3.7 Snap fastener.- Snap fasteners for the neck ribbon shall be a com- mercial sew-on type size-2/0. The snap fastener shall be fabricated from

26、 brass and shall be nickel plated. 3.3.8 Cement.- Cement for reinforcing pinked and swallow-tailed ends shall be of a nitromose type which will dry clear. The solvent constituents and the viscosity must be such that when applied to one side of a ribbon and complete- ly alr dried there shall be no ev

27、idence of discoloration or stain on the opposite side of the ribbon. The dried adhesive shall be waterproof and flexible. .When tested as specified in 4.4.8, there shall be no evidence of cracking or peeling. The color shamFreedom Blue and shall match the standard sample furnished. 3.3.9 Thread.- Th

28、read shall conform to type IC2 of Specification V-T-276. 3.3.10 Wood.- Wood for the containers shall be selected quarter cut sea- soned walnut.Wnen tested as specified in 4.4.10, the slope of the grain shall not exceed one inch in twelve inches. When tested as specified in 4.4.8, the wood, at the ti

29、me of milling, shall have a moisture content of five to nine per- cent. The wood shall be free from knots, blemishes, cracks, shakes, and torn or rai sed grain or any other defect which may affect appearance or servi ceabi 1 i ty. 3.3.11 Hinge.- The hinge for the container shall be a nickel or chrom

The seal shall be fabricated of sterling silver spec- ified in 3.3.3, and shall be 1/16 inch plus or

35、 minus .O05 inch in overall thick- ness. The seal shall have an oxidized, relieved, satin finish matching the finish of the seal on the standard sample. 36、l.“ Flannel cloth for the container bag shall conform to Type III of %CC-t-458. 3.4 Design.- The embossed design of the decoration components and the seal shall be exact replicas of the designs of the Government furnished hubs (see 3.10) from which the contractors working dies shall be extracted. Where cementing is required on the reverse of the ribbon, care should be taken to insure permeation of the ng thread without penetration to the face side of the ribbon. 3.5.1 Stamping, trimming, and piercing.- Metal components shall be struck manner that shall insure a well defined die st

39、ruck edge. The components be trimmed and when applicable pierced to the die struck outline of the specified. All edges shall be clean, smooth, and free from burrs, drag, step, and rough edges, distort the design or alter the shape of the component. The trimning and piercing operations shall not dama

44、r-cified herein (see 6.3). The use of sulfur dyes or dyes. contai ni ng elementary sul fur compounds capable of oxi dati on to sulfuric acid i s prohibited. Test for sulfur dyes shall be conducted in accordance with TM 2020 Of FED-STD-191. 3.5.4.3 Matchin .- The color shall match the approved standa

45、rd shade (dy) daylight, or artificial daylight having a color tem- perature of 7500 degrees Kelvin and shall be a good approximation to the standard shade under incandescent lamplight at 2800 degrees Kelvin. 3.5.4.4 Colorfastness.- The rayon yarn shall show fastness to crocking, light properties equ
