8、Standard ANSI/ISEA 203-2018) As many work environments remain increasingly complex and create potential exposure to multiple hazards simultaneously, it is imperative that workers are adequately protected. Selection of appropriate protective clothing is particularly important where flash fire or flam

9、e hazards exist. Although the employee will be wearing a primary thermal garment to protect against these hazards, other tasks being performed may require the use of a secondary garment to provide barrier protection to prevent the primary item from becoming contaminated with dirt, paint, grease and

10、oil, solvents or other contaminants. To address the gaps in appropriately evaluating such clothing, the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) has developed this new standard to establish minimum performance and labeling requirements for secondary single-use flame resistant protective clo

11、thing. These are commonly used in utility work and refinery maintenance and in steel processing facilities where metal is being cut or welded. Apparel covered by ISEA 203-2018 is designed for use in industrial settings where flame hazards may exist and such clothing will not negatively impact the th

12、ermal performance afforded by the primary flame resistant protective clothing worn that is worn underneath. Compliant items are independently evaluated for flame resistance and evaluated for flash fire exposure by layering the garment over a primary thermal garment. This standard was prepared by mem

Scope 1.1 This standard establishes minimum performance and labeling requirements for secondary single-use flame resistant protective clothing. Such clothing is designed for use in industrial settings where fl

20、ame hazards may exist and such clothing will not negatively impact the thermal performance afforded by the primary flame resistant protective clothing worn underneath. Protective clothing covered by this standard includes items such as, but not limited to, encapsulating suits, coveralls, jackets, pa

21、nts, lab coats, aprons and sleeves. NOTE: For single use and multiple use items, the word use is defined as exposure to chemical, flame or laundering. NOTE: The performance requirements in this standard are not meant to assess garments intended for use as rainwear. 1.2 This standard does not specifi

22、cally address individual testing of components and findings, which include but are not limited to zippers, elastic seam thread, zipper tape, buckles, hook and loop tape and draw cords. This standard does not address multiple use secondary single-use flame resistant protective clothing. This standard

23、 does not address protective clothing designed for protection from hot liquids, steam, or electric arc exposure. This standard does not address barrier performance requirements for chemical or biological protection afforded by the garment or ensemble. This standard does not purport to address all of

Purpose This standard is intended to provide manufacturers with

25、 minimum requirements for testing and labeling secondary single-use flame resistant protective clothing. The items detailed in this standard are intended for use in multi-hazard environments where combinations of liquid or solid particulate hazards are accompanied by the potential for exposure to fl

Definitions After-flame: A persistent flaming of a material after the ignition source has been removed. After-flame time: The length of time for which a materia

29、l continues to flame after the ignition source has been removed. Char length: The distance from the fabric edge, which is directly exposed to the flame to the furthest point of visible fabric damage after a specified tearing force has been applied. 30、sed on evidence that a product or service meets the requirements of a standard or regulation. Conformity assessment: Demonstration that specified requirements relating to a product, process, system, person or body are fulfilled. Declaration of conformity: A statement by the manufacturer or supplier,

31、 based on a decision following review, that fulfillment of the requirements specified in this standard has been demonstrated. (Appendix B2) Dripping: A material response evidenced by flowing of the polymer. In evaluating the effects of flame contact or heat exposure of materials used in protective c

32、lothing, dripping may be the formation of liquid droplets from melted surface or substrate material during flame impingement. Flame resistance: The property of a material whereby flaming combustion is prevented, terminated, or inhibited following application of a flaming or non-flaming source of ign

33、ition, with or without subsequent removal of the ignition source. Flash fire: A fire that spreads rapidly through a diffuse fuel, such as dust, gas, or vapors of an ignitable liquid, without the production of damaging pressure. Garments: Clothing including, but not limited to, coveralls, trousers, s

34、hirts, and outerwear. Melt: A response to heat by a material resulting in evidence of flowing or dripping. Model: The collective term used to identify a group of elements or items of the same basic design and components from a single manufacturer produced by the same manufacturing and quality assura

35、nce procedures that are covered by the same declaration of conformity. Multiple use: Items that are designed and intended by the manufacturer to be worn multiple times. Predicted total burn injury: In the fire testing of clothing, the manikin surface area represented by all thermal energy sensors re

36、gistering a predicted second-degree or predicted third-degree burn injury, expressed as a percentage. Primary flame resistant protective clothing: Protective clothing that is engineered for the primary purpose to provide protection to the wearer from flame and thermal hazards. NOTE: Compliance with

37、16CFR1610 (Standard for the Flammability of Clothing Textiles), CAN/CGSB 4.2 No. 27.5-2008 (Textile Test Methods Flame Resistance 45 Angle Test One-Second Flame Impingement) or other similar consumer safety standards does not imply flame resistance. Protective clothing material: Any material or comb

38、ination of materials used in an item of clothing for the purpose of isolating parts of the body from a potential hazard. Sample: An amount of the material or product to be tested that is representative of the item as a whole. Secondary single-use flame resistant protective clothing: Protective cloth

39、ing that is designed to be worn over primary flame resistant protective clothing without negatively impacting the burn injury protection levels of the primary flame resistant protective clothing. Single use: Items that are designed and intended by the manufacturer to only be worn once. Specimen: The

40、 item that undergoes testing; in some cases, the specimen is also the sample. 5. Compliance 5.1 General 5.1.1 Demonstration of conformity to the requirements of this standard shall be in accordance with ANSI/ISEA 125-2014. The manufacturer shall select the level of conformity assessment claimed, and

41、 such level shall be clearly indicated in any claim, in any form, that references compliance with ANSI/ISEA 125-2014. 5.1.2 Manufacturers shall not claim compliance with any part of the requirements of this standard and shall not use the name or identification of this standard in any statements ANSI

42、/ISEA 203-2018 Page 3 regarding their respective products unless the product conforms fully to this standard. 5.1.3 Secondary single-use flame resistant clothing models complying with the requirements of this standard shall not preclude the garment from complying with other relevant standards, as ap

43、plicable. 5.2 Documentation 5.2.1 Secondary single-use flame resistant clothing shall be tested to verify performance to the requirements specified in this standard. At a minimum, the information found in the Performance Testing Report (Appendix B1) shall be provided. 5.2.2 A Declaration of Conformi

44、ty shall be developed for all models produced by each company. At a minimum, the information found on the form in Appendix B2 shall be provided. 5.2.3 The issuer of the declaration of conformity shall have procedures in place to ensure the continued conformity of the product, as delivered or accepte

45、d, with the stated requirements of the declaration of conformity. The issuer of the declaration of conformity shall have procedures in place to re-evaluate the validity of the declaration of conformity, in the event of: a) changes significantly affecting the design or specification of the product; b

46、) changes in the standards to which conformity of the product is stated; c) changes in the ownership or structure of the supplier, if relevant; or d) relevant information indicating that the product may no longer conform to the specified requirements 6. Performance Requirements 6.1 General Secondary

47、 single-use flame resistant protective clothing shall be tested to the requirements provided in Section 6.2 and 6.3. Test specimens shall be taken at random from commercially-available quantities representative of commercially-available quality. 6.2 Flame Resistance Test When tested in accordance wi

48、th ASTM D6413/D6413M-15, material(s) utilized in the construction of secondary single-use flame resistant protective clothing with a total area greater than 0.1 m2 shall have an average char length of not more than 7 inches (178 mm) and an average after-flame time of not more than 2 seconds. Failure

49、 in either direction shall constitute failure of the material. Upon examination, there shall be no evidence of material melt and drip. NOTE: Materials which cannot be tested in a free -standing form can be tested while attached to the underlying shell fabric. The tested configuration should be noted in the report form. Zippers and zipper tape are excluded from this requirement. The following shall be reported: a) After-flame time and char length of each specimen b) Calculated average of all specimens for char length and after-flame time. c) Observations related to meltin
