9、ssure Drainer Section of the Fluid Controls Institute, Inc. to provide manufacturers, users and specifiers of the products with uniform methods and requirements to conduct production testing of secondary pressure drainers. The standard was developed by a technical subcommittee of the Secondary Press

10、ure Drainer Section. The subcommittee completed its work in late 1997 and the standard was submitted to the section for approval as an FCI standard. Some modifications were made by the section, which approved the standard as an FCI standard in May, 1998. FCI recognizes the need to periodically revie

13、AL STANDARD Standard for Production Testing of Secondary Pressure Drainers 1. SCOPE 1.1 This standard specifies production tests that are considered applicable to secondary pressure drainers. 1.2 These tests may be conducted to ensure the correct functioning of either: 1) complete secondary pressure

14、 drainers or 2) the operating mechanisms thereof. 2. DEFINITIONS 2.1 Secondary Pressure Drainer (SPD) - A vessel which collects and discharges liquid by alternately pressurizing and depressurizing through a given valve arrangement, utilizing a secondary, compatible vapor or gas pressure as the motiv

15、e force. 2.2 Operating Mechanism - Sensing and valving arrangement of the SPD that alternately provides and relieves pressure from a secondary motive source in accordance with predetermined fluid levels. 3. TECHNICAL TERMS 3.1 Maximum Allowable Pressure (PMA) - Maximum pressure to which the SPD can

16、safely be subjected without failure of the pressure boundary members. 3.2 Maximum Operating Pressure (PMO) - Maximum motive pressure at which operating mechanism will function correctly. 3.3. Motive Pressure (PM) - Compatible gas or vapor pressure from the secondary source used to discharge the liqu

17、id medium from the SPD. 4. PRODUCTION TESTS 4.1 Product Inspection - Samples of the finished SPD and/or operating mechanism shall be visually examined and dimensionally checked to ensure that they correspond to the stated specification and are marked in accordance with section 5. 4.2 Shell Leak Test

18、ing - Each SPD shall be tested to confirm the integrity of its shell under pressure. Further details are given in 6.1. 4.3 Operational Check - Each SPD operating mechanism shall be tested to ensure that it alternately causes a vessel to pressurize and vent as liquid is collected and discharged. Furt

19、her details are given in 6.2. 4.4 Notice for Acceptance Test - If the purchaser wishes to witness the tests, this shall be specified in the order. 5. MARKING REQUIREMENTS Each operating mechanism shall be marked in a clearly visible location with designations to include, but not be limited to, the f

20、ollowing: Manufacturers Name Model Designation Maximum Operating Pressure (PMO)2 6. TEST METHOD 6.1 Shell Test 6.1.1 Each SPD shall be given a shell test with water, which may contain a corrosion inhibitor, or with another suitable fluid, providing such fluid has viscosity not greater than water, at

21、 a test temperature not greater than 120F (50C). 6.1.2 Any internal trim which will not withstand the test pressure may be removed before the test. The vessel shall be vented of air before the test. The vessel or complete SPD may be tested individually or as an assembly. 6.1.3 Test equipment shall n

22、ot subject the vessel to externally applied stresses which may affect the results of the tests. 6.1.4 The shell test shall be performed by applying pressure inside the vessel with the connections plugged or closed. The shell test shall be performed at a pressure no less than 1.5 times the maximum al

23、lowable pressure (PMA) at 100F (38C) for SPDs of steel construction. SPDs of cast iron or ductile iron construction shall be tested at no less than 2 times the maximum allowable working pressure (PMA) at 100F (38C). 6.1.5 Test duration shall be not less than 60 seconds. 6.1.6 Visually detectable lea

24、kage through the pressure retaining walls shall not be acceptable. 6.1.7 Leakage through temporary seals or gaskets is not cause for rejection. 6.2 Operational Check - Each SPD operating mechanism shall be functionally tested at a minimum of 50% of its maximum operating pressure (PMO). Throughout th

25、e test, the operating mechanism shall alternately pressurize and depressurize, at the manufacturers predetermined fluid levels, as liquid is collected and discharged for a minimum of 10 cycles. Test fluid shall be water or a suitable alternate of the same specific gravity. Steam, air or any other su
