It is a not-for-profit, nonstatutory, volun
9、tarymembership association engaged in standardsdevelopment and certification activities.CSA standards reflect a national consensus of producersand users including manufacturers, consumers,retailers, unions and professional organizations, andgovernmental agencies. The standards are used widely byindu
10、stry and commerce and often adopted by municipal,provincial, and federal governments in their regulations,particularly in the fields of health, safety, building andconstruction, and the environment.Individuals, companies, and associations across Canadaindicate their support for CSAs standards develo
11、pment byvolunteering their time and skills to CSA Committeework and supporting the Associations objectives throughsustaining memberships. The more than 7000 committeevolunteers and the 2000 sustaining memberships togetherform CSAs total membership from which its Directors arechosen. Sustaining membe
12、rships represent a major sourceof income for CSAs standards development activities.The Association offers certification and testing services insupport of and as an extension to its standardsdevelopment activities. To ensure the integrity of itscertification process, the Association regularly andcont
13、inually audits and inspects products that bear theCSA Mark.In addition to its head office and laboratory complex inEtobicoke, CSA has regional branch offices in majorcentres across Canada and inspection and testing agenciesin eight countries. Since 1919, the Association hasdeveloped the necessary ex
14、pertise to meet its corporatemission: CSA is an independent service organizationwhose mission is to provide an open and effective forumfor activities facilitating the exchange of goods andservices through the use of standards, certification andrelated services to meet national and international need
