4、table performance of direct gas-firedcirculating heaters for agricultural animal confinement buildings. It is the result ofyears of experience in the manufacture, testing, installation, maintenance,inspection and research on direct gas-fired circulating heaters for agriculturalanimal confinement bui
5、ldings designed for the utilization of gas. There are risks ofinjury to persons inherent in some appliances that, if completely eliminated, woulddefeat the utility of the appliance. The provisions in this Standard are intended toreduce such risks while retaining the normal function of the appliance.
6、Nothing in this standard is to be considered in any way as indicating ameasure of quality beyond compliance with the provisions it contains. It isdesigned to allow compliance of direct gas-fired circulating heaters for agriculturalanimal confinement buildings, the construction and performance of whi
7、ch mayexceed the various provisions specified herein. In its preparation, full recognitionhas been given to possibilities of improvement through ingenuity of design. Asprogress takes place, revisions may become necessary. When they are believeddesirable, recommendations should be forwarded to Intern

13、allproducts certified by that organization should comply with this standard.HISTORY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF STANDARDFOR DIRECT GAS-FIRED CIRCULATING HEATERS FORAGRICULTURAL ANIMAL CONFINEMENT BUILDINGS(This History is informative and is not part of the standard.)In 1988, International Approval Service
14、s-U.S.Inc. (formerly the American Gas Associationlaboratories), developed its A.G.A. Requirement5-88 on agricultural heaters. This standard wasused for design certification testing of gas-firedagricultural heaters by IAS U.S. Interest wasindicated in 1990 to develop a nationallyrecognized standard,
15、at which time IAS U.S.agreed to relinquish its standard to the Z83Project. The Z83 Committee assigned theactivity to its construction heater subcommittee.As time progressed, there was a desire toexpedite development of a national standardand it was believed that this could beaccomplished more readil
16、y by returning thedraft standard to IAS U.S. for developmentunder its ANSI Canvass Method sponsorship.The Z83 Committee and its construction heatersubcommittee agreed that IAS U.S. undertakedevelopment of the standard.IAS U.S. proceeded to establish a newproject activity. The American NationalStanda
17、rds Institute (ANSI) was contacted inOctober 1994 to inform them that IAS U.S. wasundertaking this project under its CanvassMethod sponsorship. A Canvass List was formedof interested parties to exercise review andapproval of the standard. The A.G.A. (IAS U.S.)Requirements Committee, an internal stan
18、dardswriting committee of IAS U.S., and a TechnicalAdvisory Group (TAG) comprised of non-IASinterested parties, were appointed to serve asthe technical advisors on this activity. Theproject was assigned the designation IAS U.S.LC 2.IAS U.S. LC 2 provides coverage for newly-produced direct-fired circ
19、ulating heatersprimarily intended for use in agriculturalanimal confinement buildings.At its December 1, 1994 meeting, the IAS U.S.Requirements Committee reviewed and modifiedproposed IAS U.S. LC 2, in light ofrecommendations developed previously by an adhoc working group of the Z83 constructionheat
20、er subcommittee.By letter ballot dated December 22, 1994,individuals selected to serve on the TechnicalAdvisory Group (TAG) were forwarded a copyof proposed IAS U.S. LC 2 standard datedDecember 1994. They were asked to review thedocument for technical accuracy. The results ofthe ballot indicated the
21、 document requiredfurther review and development.At its February 2, 1995 meeting, the IAS U.S.Requirements Committee modified theDecember 1994 draft of proposed IAS U.S. LC 2,in light of substantive comments received fromthe Technical Advisory Group (TAG).Subsequently, a second draft of proposed IAS
22、U.S. LC 2 dated February 1995 was forwardedto the TAG for their review. Comment wasreceived that the standard should be limited toheaters having a nominal gas supply pressurenot exceeding 1/2 psig. This comment was basedon a recommendation made by the GAMAControls Division Standards Review Task Grou
23、pat its February 1994 meeting.After TAG approval and modification in lightof the above comment, a third draft of IAS U.S.LC 2, dated March 1995, was prepared anddistributed to the canvass list by letter ballot.A June 15, 1995 meeting of the IASRequirements Committee was held in responseto requests s
24、ubmitted by two participants. Bothindividuals originally voted “Object” on theCanvass ballot dated February 28, 1995. In orderto resolve the objections, both individualsagreed to change their vote to “Abstain” on theFebruary 1995 ballot, provided a meeting of theIAS Requirements Committee was schedu
