Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS) IPS dimensioned pressur
3、e pipe produced by singleextrusion in standard thermoplastic pipe dimension ratios andpressure rated for water (see Appendix X1). Included arecriteria for classifying ABS plastic pipe materials and ABSplastic pipe, a system of nomenclature for ABS plastic pipe,and requirements and test methods for m
4、aterials, workmanship,dimensions, sustained pressure, burst pressure, and extrusionquality. Methods of marking are also given.1.2 The products covered by this specification are intendedfor use with the distribution of pressurized liquids, which arechemically compatible with the piping materials. Con
5、sult withthe manufacturer and local building codes before use in otherapplications. Due to inherent hazards associated with testingcomponents and systems with compressed air or other com-pressed gases some manufacturers do not allow pneumatictesting of their products. Consult with specific product/c
6、omponent manufacturers for their specific testing proceduresprior to pneumatic testing.NOTE 1Pressurized (compressed) air or other compressed gasescontain large amounts of stored energy which present serious safetyhazards should a system fail for any reason.NOTE 2Exposure to ultraviolet radiation ov
7、er a long period of timemay affect the physical properties of ABS pipe. Consult the manufacturerfor recommendations for handling, storage, and installations that are notprotected by insulation.1.3 Pipe meeting the requirements of this standard is notcompatible with DWV fittings. The ABS pipe covered
8、 in thisstandard is intended for pressure service and it shall be joinedto pressure fittings. Non-pressure fittings, such as DWV fittingsfrom any material (ABS, PVC, CPVC, etc.) are not acceptablefor pressure applications.1.4 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes,and appendixes
9、which provide explanatory material. Thesenotes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shallnot be considered as requirements of the specification.1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Materials4.1 GeneralAcrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene plastics usedto make pipe meeting the requirements of this specification arecategorized by means of two criteria: basic short-termproperties, and long-term hydrostatic strength. Sections 4.2 and4.3 respectivel
19、y define these categories.4.2 Basic Materials Short-term PropertiesThis specifi-cation covers ABS pipe made from ABS plastic materialsmeeting or exceeding requirements for ABS 42222 as definedin Specification D3965.4.3 Long-Term Hydrostatic StrengthThis specificationcovers ABS pipe made from ABS pla
20、stic material having anestablished 73F (23C) hydrostatic design basis of 2500 psi(17.24 MPa) or greater in accordance with Test Method D2837.4.4 Rework MaterialThe manufacturers shall use onlytheir own clean rework pipe material and the pipe producedshall meet all the requirements of this specificat
21、ion.4.5 Potable Water RequirementProducts intended for con-tact with potable water shall be evaluated, tested and certifiedfor conformance with NSF/ANSI Standard No. 61 or the healtheffects portion of NSF/ANSI Standard No. 14 by an acceptablecertifying organization when required by the regulatory au
22、thor-ity having jurisdiction.5. Pipe Classification5.1 GeneralThis specification covers ABS pipe producedby single extrusion.5.2 Standard Pipe Dimension Ratios (SDR)This specifi-cation covers ABS pipe in six standard dimension ratios,namely, 9, 11, 13.5, 17, 21, and 26. These are referred to asSDR9,
23、 SDR11, SDR13.5, SDR17, SDR21, and SDR26, re-spectively. The pressure rating is uniform for all nominal pipesizes for a given ABS pipe material and SDR (see Table X1.1,Appendix).6. Requirements6.1 WorkmanshipThe pipe shall be homogeneousthroughout and free of visible cracks, holes, foreign inclusion
24、s,or other defects. The pipe shall be as uniform as commerciallypracticable in color, opacity, density, and other physical prop-erties.6.2 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.2.1 Outside DiametersThe outside diameters and toler-ances shall be as shown in Table 1 when measured inaccordance with Test Method D
