22、air conditioners.” The scope of the standard has alsobeen revised; instead of covering units of all sizes, it nowapplies only to units with a cooling capacity of 19,000 W(65,000 Btu/h) and greater. This change reflects the fact thatsmaller portable air conditioners are now covered by ANSI/AHAM Stand

23、ard PAC-1 of the Association of Home Appli-ance Manufactures, and a similar standard, Standard C370,has been issued by the Canadian Standards Association. Bothof these cover portable air conditioners with capacities up to19,000 W (65,000 Btu/h). Finally, this new edition of Stan-dard 128 adopts the

24、rating methodology of C370 (which theAHAM standard also uses) so that all portable air condition-ers can be rated in the same way.Note: This standard is adapted from Standard C370-09by the Canadian Standards Association, with appropriatemodifications due to the difference in scope. TERMINOLOGYIn this standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement,i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order t

29、ocomply with the standard; “should” is used to express a recom-mendation or that which is advised but not required; and“may” is used to express an option or that which is permissiblewithin the limits of the standard. Legends to equa-tions and figures are considered requirements.4. GENERAL REQUIREMEN

31、TS4.1 Portable air conditioners shall be designed, constructed,and assembled so as to meet the applicable electrical and refrig-eration safety requirements for the Canadian and/or U.S. mar-ket, as appropriate. For Canada, applicable requirements arefound in the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1,4CSA

32、StandardsB525and C22.2 No. 117.6For the United States, applicablerequirements are found in UL Standard 484,7ASHRAE Stan-dard 158and the National Electrical Code (NEC).95. RATINGS REQUIREMENTS5.1 Standard Cooling Capacity and Standard SpotCooling Capacity. Standard Cooling Capacity and StandardSpot C

33、ooling Capacity shall be stated as total (sensible andlatent) cooling capacity and shall include the effects of evap-orator circulating-fan heat. Input ratings shall be the totalpower input to the compressor(s), fan motor(s), control(s),and pump(s). Ratings of water-cooled units that are not equippe

34、d with anintegral pump shall include a total allowance for the cooling-tower fan motor and circulating water-pump motor powerinputs of 34.1 W per 1000 W (10 W per 1000 Btu/h) coolingcapacity.5.2 Standard Cooling and Spot Cooling Capacity andInput Ratings. Standard Cooling Capacity and Spot CoolingCa

35、pacity ratings shall be expressed in the nearest multiple of200 W (700 Btu/h).5.3 Standard Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) Ratings.Standard Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) in W/W (Btu/Wh)shall be expressed in increments of 0.1.5.4 Standard Spot Cooling Efficiency (SCE) Ratings.Standard Spot Cooling Effi

36、ciency (SCE) in W/W (Btu/Wh)shall be expressed in increments of 0.1.5.5 Application Ratings. Ratings at conditions of temper-ature and/or air quantity other than those specified inSection 6 may be established as application ratings and shallbe based upon the data produced by the tests prescribed inS

37、ection 6. 5.6 Published Ratings5.6.1 The performance ratings (EER, SCE, and coolingcapacity) of portable air conditioners published by the manu-facturer in its specifications, literature, or advertising shall be American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (www.ash

The pub-lished ratings shall reference t

39、he configuration type as definedin Section 8.5.6.2 The Cooling Capacity and Spot Cooling Capacityratings shall be expressed in watts (Btu/h) in accordance withthe tests defined in Section 6.3. Tons or other units shall not beused as capacity designations. Capacity designations shall bestated in mult

40、iples of 200 W (700 Btu/h).5.6.3 To comply with this standard, published ratings ofStandard Cooling Capacity, Standard Energy Efficiency Ratio(EER), Spot Cooling Efficiency (SCE), and Power Input shallbe based on data obtained in accordance with the tests speci-fied in Section 6.Portable air-conditi

41、oning production units, when tested,shall have measured ratings equal to or better than thepublished ratings, except for an allowance to cover testing andmanufacturing variations. The allowance is such that each unitis required to have a measured rating of at least 95% of theunits published ratings.

42、6. TESTS6.1 Method of Test. Tests shall be conducted in accordancewith Sections 6.2 and 6.3 and the requirements of the follow-ing sections in ASHRAE Standard 37, Methods of Testing forRating Electrically Driven Unitary Air-Conditioning andHeat Pump Equipment:10a. Equipment set up: Sections 5.1, 5.3

43、, 5.4, and 5.6. For alltesting, a plenum (duct) shall be attached to the evapora-tor discharge side of the equipment as required by Sec-tions 6.4.1 and 6.4.2.b. Determination of Standard Cooling Capacity and Stan-dard Spot Cooling Capacity: Sections 7.3, 7.6, and 7.7.c. Determination of power input:

Reporting of results: Section 10.6.1.1 Testing Condensate Pumps that Cycle. For porta-ble air conditioners equipped with condensate pumps thatcycle to dispose of the conden

45、sate collected by the unit, therating test(s) shall be conducted over a period of not less thanone hour. The data-acquisition system shall take data scans atintervals of five seconds or less and shall integrate the data forthe entire test period.If there are less than two complete ON/OFF cycles of t

46、hecondensate pump within the one hour test, the test shall becontinued until there are two complete cycles.6.1.2 Testing Using Two Test Chambers. When the test-unit condenser air is discharged to an unconditioned space, ameans shall be provided to ensure that the static pressure dif-ference between

47、the conditioned space and the unconditionedspace is less than 1.25 Pa (0.005 in. H2O). For models with asingle-duct condenser configuration (specifically configura-tions 5 and 6 of Figure 1), the condenser air may be dis-charged into the conditioned space as long as it does notinterfere with the tem

48、perature conditions of the air enteringthe test unit.6.2 Installation. The unit shall be positioned level unlessthe manufacturers instructions state otherwise.6.3 Standard Rating Test Conditions6.3.1 General. Tests to satisfy the requirements of Section5 of this standard shall be conducted in accord

49、ance with Sec-tions 6.3.2 through 6.3.6 below. All adjustable settings such aslouvers, fan speed, special functions shall be set for maximumcapacity.6.3.2 Standard Rating Voltage and Frequency. Stan-dard rating tests shall be performed at the rated voltage andfrequency listed on the units nameplate. For portable air con-ditioners with dual voltage ratings, standard rating tests shallbe performed at both voltages or at the lower of the two volt-ages if only a single standard rating is to be published.6.3.3 Equipment. The portable air conditioner shall betested with clean filters i
