4、umer products. Symantec becomes the fourth major anti-virus firmand the largestto add predictive capabilities to traditional reactive anti-virus systems. Since February, McAfee, Panda Security and Trend Micro have introduced similar predictive technologies. Computer infections most often spread when
5、 a PC user clicks on an altered Web link that arrives in an e-mall or social-network message, or appears in search results for questions on Google, Bing and Yahoo Search. What“s more, millions of lawful Web pagesunknowingly altered by hackerscan also infect a PC during a page visit. Cybercriminals u
6、se infected PCs to spread junk e-mails, steal data and hijack online banking accounts. Infections can change hourly, forcing anti-virus firms to create and deliver thousands of filters each day. “The amount of ill-meaning software produced today has required all of us to change the approach we take
7、in combating it,“ says Trend Micro senior manager Jon Clay. Trend began offering predictive protection to business customers in May. But some experts, like New York University fertility specialist Dr. J
14、amie Grifo, worry that sex selection could lead to a kind of in uteri (子宫) discrimination, especially in cultures where sons are considered superior to daughters. “It“s valuing one gender over another,“ Grifo says. “I don“t think that“s something we should be doing.“ So far, patients at the institut

Too little or too much of a particular nutrient in the diet can affect their production, Chudler says. For example, trypto
20、phan from foods such as yogurt, milk, bananas, and eggs is required for the production of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Phenylalanine from beets, almonds, eggs, meat, and grains goes into making the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dozens of neurotransmitters are known; hundreds may exist. Their effects
21、 depend on their amounts and where they work in the brain. The neurotransmitter serotonin, for example, is thought to produce feelings of calmness, relaxation, and contentment. Drugs that prevent it from being taken again (into the neuron that released it) are prescribed to treat depression. In at l
22、east some healthy, nondepressed people, carbohydrate foods seem to enhance serotonin production and produce similar effects. “It is the balance between different neurotransmitters that helps regulate mood,“ Chudler says. Proper nutrition may also enhance brainpower. Choline is a substance similar to
23、 the B vitamins. It“s found in egg yolks, whole wheat, peanuts, milk, green peas, liver, beans, seafood, and soybeans. The brain uses it to make the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. To test the effects of choline on memory and learning, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology gave me
