(UL) under its Follow-Up Service for this category within the limitations given below and in the Scope section of
6、this Outline of Investigation. They are subject to revision as further experience and investigation may show is necessary or desirable. B. The observance of these requirements by a manufacturer is one of the conditions of the continued coverage of the manufacturers product. C. A product which compli
7、es with the text of this Outline of Investigation will not necessarily be judged to comply with the Outline of Investigation if, when examined and tested, it is found to have other features which impair the level of safety contemplated by these requirements. D. A product employing materials or havin
8、g forms of construction which conflict with specific requirements of the Outline of Investigation cannot be judged to comply with the Outline of Investigation. A product employing materials or having forms of construction not addressed by this Outline of Investigation may be examined and tested acco
9、rding to the intent of the requirements and, if found to meet the intent of this Outline of Investigation, may be judged to comply with the Outline of Investigation. E. UL, in performing its functions in accordance with its objectives, does not assume or undertake to discharge any responsibility of
10、the manufacturer or any other party. The opinions and findings of UL represent its professional judgement given with due consideration to the necessary limitations of practical operation and state of the art at the time the Outline of Investigation is processed. UL shall not be responsible to anyone
11、 for the use of or reliance upon this Outline of Investigation by anyone. UL shall not incur any obligation or liability for damages, including consequential damages, arising out of or in connection with the use, interpretation of, or reliance upon this Outline of Investigation. F. Many tests requir
12、ed by the Outline of Investigations of UL are inherently hazardous and adequate safeguards for personnel and property shall be employed in conducting such tests. NOVEMBER 29,2000 SUBJECT 2178 5 INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 This outline of investigation covers marking and coding equipment rated 600 V or
13、less using an ink-jet or laser printer for production-line labeling and coding. The equipment is intended for commercial or industrial applications. These requirements cover cord connected and permanently connected equipment. 1.2 Laser products covered by these requirements are intended for installa
14、tion in accordance with the American National Standard for Safe Use of Lasers, ANSI 2136.1. 1.3 These requirements do not cover ink-jet or laser printers intended for applications that fall under the scope of the Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment, Including Electrical Business
15、Equipment; UL 1950, or the Standard for Graphic Arts Equipment, UL 775. 1.4 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different from those covered by the requirements in this outline of investigation, and that involves a risk of fire, electric shock,
16、 or injury to persons shall be evaluated using the appropriate additional component and end-product requirements to determine that the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this outline of investigation is maintained. A product whose features, characteristics, components, materi
17、als, or systems conflict with specific requirements or provisions of this outline of investigation shall not be judged to comply with this outline of investigation. Where appropriate, revision of requirements shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, rev
18、ision, and implementation of this outline of investigation. 2 General 2.1 Components 2.1.1 Other than as specified in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this outline of investigation shall comply with the requirements for that component. 2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a spe
19、cific requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in the product covered by this outline of investigation, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this outline of investigation. 2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rati
20、ng established for the intended conditions of use. 2.1.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall b
21、e used only under those specific conditions. 6 SUBJECT 2178 NOVEMBER 29,2000 2.2 Units of measurement 2.2.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory or approximate information. 2.3 Reference 2.3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appeari
22、ng in the requirements of this outline of investigation shall be interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard. 3 Glossary 3.1 For the purpose of this outline of investigation, the following definitions apply. 3.2 Laser Safety Officer (LSO) - A person responsible for monito
23、ring and enforcing the contr laser or laser system. The LSO is responsible for: a) Classifying or verifying classifications of a laser or laser system, I fa b) Evaluating the risks of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons within the work area in which the laser or laser system operates, c) Impl
24、ementing and auditing control measures, d) Implementing and auditing procedural control measures for the use of a laser or laser system, e) Implementing and auditing the use of laser protective equipment intended for the purpose, f) Verifying the correct use of required signs and labels, g) Verifyin
