20、stem StrategyThe basis of the latching strategy is to define a common physical interface which can be usedby the automotive and consumer cellular industries.Once the common physical interface is defined, the vehicle manufactures and consumerelectronics manufactures can choose to incorporate this phy

21、sical interface and ensure thephysical connection of the two products.The common physical interface, defined by this specification, will be the vehicle side of the latch.This will be referred to as Multi-Media Latch, or MML, from here forward. (See FigureA)TIA/EIA/IS-7902The Multi-Media Latch is phy

22、sically defined in Figure C and D.This specification will also define requirements which will ensure the design integrity androbustness of the latching system. It will specify criteria which will ensure consistent usage,function and presentation to the consumer.3.0 System DescriptionThe latching sys

23、tem consists of four parts: (See Figure A) automotive environment (vehicle) vehicle latch (Multi-Media Latch) cellular phone latch cellular phone or consumer electronic deviceIncorporation of the latching system is accomplished on the vehicle side by the vehicle providingmeans for mounting the Multi

24、-Media Latch.The vehicle designers can define a mounting location and include all the design parameters whichthey feel are required for the consumer to easily install and operate their consumer electronicsproducts.Consumer cellular phone manufactures and consumer device manufactures can utilize thel

25、atching system and interface with the vehicle by obtaining or incorporating the means to connectto the Multi-Media Latch.4.0 General requirements and design integrityThe latch assembly will have a positive locking mechanism which will provide feedback(audible, tactile or visual) to inform the consum

26、er that the lock has been engaged.The latching set shall remain engaged when exposed to a removal force of 25 lbs. in all threeaxis.The operation of the latch and location of the release feature should be intuitive, obvious, andsimple.The latch assembly shall meet/exceed a cycle life of 5000 cycles

27、(1 cycle = engagement +disengagement) at automotive temperatures without failure. Temperature requirements are:Operational -30C to 65C. Storage -40C to 85C.TIA/EIA/IS-7903Provisions in the cellular phone half of the latch will have physical properties designed andmanufactured into the product such t

28、hat the latching system will not vibrate and cause noisewhen mounted in the automotive environment.Manufactures of any portion of the latching system wishing to be in compliance with thisstandard, must adhere to all mechanical properties and physical requirements of thisspecification.4.1 Material re

31、owingmechanical properties:TIA/EIA/IS-7904Tensile Strength, yield, Minimum 6500 psi (Method ASTM D638)Must have a Coefficient of thermal expansion less than 4.0 E-5 inches/inch/F (MethodASTM E831)5.0 Latch integrationThe recommended mounting basis of the latching system is the AMPS four hole mountin

32、gpattern. (see Figure B)5.1 Vehicle side (direct mounting of the MML to the vehicle)The vehicle can utilize the Multi-Media Latch by providing the AMPS four hole mountingpattern and a mounting surface. The female fasteners for the connection of the MML will beprovided by the vehicle. The thread type

33、 for the fasteners are M4 x .7 mm. It is recommendedthat the vehicle design and protect for the engagement length of threaded fasteners which have adepth of: minimum 8 mm and maximum 12 mm in length.The mounting surface on the vehicle which will be in contact with the MML, shall be flat within.10 mm

34、.The area around the perimeter of the MML mounting location must be free of protrusions toallow the phone/consumer electronics portion of the latch clearance to engage the MML:There shall be no protrusions above the MML mounting plane, on the vehicle side, in the areaaround the MML mounting location

35、 . This area is described in Figure B. See Footnote1.The vehicle can choose to integrate the MML directly into a vehicle property viaincorporation of injection molding or similar manufacturing processes. If a vehicle manufacturechooses to integrate the MML, the material specifications and all other

36、requirements of thisdocument shall be met in order to ensure a robust system.5.2 Vehicle side (after market applications)Vehicle side applications of the MML may also be accomplished by “after marketapplications“ which typically are brackets, stalks, plates, etc. Applications of this type usuallyuse

39、t applications are M4 x .7 countersinkhead screws with M4 x .7 nuts.Mounting properties of after market solutions must also adhere to the mechanical requirementsof this specification, which include physical properties, flatness and keep out areas.5.3 Consumer electronics sideConsumer electronics pro
