14、l committees (IEC National Committees). The object of the IEC is to promoteinternational co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. Tothis end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes International Standards. Their preparation isen

28、nstruction3.1 GeneralIn addition to the constructional requirements in IEC 60794-2, the following considerationsapply to simplex and duplex indoor cables.The cable shall be designed and manufactured for an expected operating lifetime of atleast 15 years. In this context, the attenuation of the insta

29、lled cable at the operationalwavelength(s) shall not exceed the values agreed between the customer and themanufacturer. The materials in the cable shall not present a health hazard within itsintended use.There shall be no fibre splice in a delivery length unless otherwise agreed by the customerand t

30、he manufacturer.It shall be possible to identify each individual fibre throughout the length of the cable.60794-2-10 IEC:2003 11 3.2 Optical fibres and primary coatingMultimode or single-mode optical fibres meeting the requirements of IEC 60793-2 shall beused.3.3 BufferIf a tight or semi-tight (loos

31、ely applied) buffer is required, it shall consist of one or more layersof inert material. The buffer shall be easily removable. For tight buffers, the buffer and fibreprimary coating shall be removable in one operation over a length of 15 mm to 25 mm,depending on customer requirements. For tight or

36、ither metallic or non-metallic and may belocated in the cable core and/or under the sheath and/or in the sheath.3.10 RipcordNone.3.11 SheathThe cable shall have an overall protective sheath. The cable diameter shall be specified in therelevant detail specification (or product specification).3.12 She

37、ath markingIf required, the cable shall be marked as agreed between customer and manufacturer.3.13 IdentificationNone.3.14 Examples of cable constructionsExamples of some main types of cable construction are shown in Figures 1 to 7. Otherconfigurations are not excluded if they meet the mechanical, e

38、nvironmental and transmissionrequirements given in this specification.4 TestsCompliance with relevant detail specification requirements shall be verified by carrying outtests selected from the following subclauses. It is not intended that all the tests shall becarried out; the frequency of testing s

39、hall be agreed between the customer and themanufacturer.Unless otherwise specified, all tests shall be carried out at ambient temperature.4.1 DimensionsThe fibre dimensions and tolerances shall be checked in accordance with test method C ofIEC 60793-1-20 or IEC 60793-1-21. The diameter of the buffer

40、 and of the cable, as well as thethickness of the sheath, shall be measured in accordance with the methods of IEC 60189-1.4.2 Mechanical requirementsSome of the following tests can be performed on a short sample length of cable which is stillan integral part of a longer length. Thus, it becomes poss

41、ible to detect permanent changes inattenuation.
