SCOPEThis
6、SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) establishes requirements applicable to metal stock that is ordered and produced in accordance with an Aerospace Material Specification (AMS). Topics include producer requirements, distributor requirements, size and grain orientation nomenclature, and purchaser ordering in
7、formation to distributors. Requirements of this document have been developed to address titanium and titanium alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and corrosion and heat-resistant alloys.2. 12、plate) whose longitudinal orientation is the largest as-produced dimension and has been dimensionally reduced during the final hot working operation in at least two axes perpendicular to the longitudinal direction by pressing, extruding, forging, rolling, or drawing and finished in accordance with s
13、tandard industry practices to the producer-certified size and shape. Some shapes such as flat rounds may be finished by sizing in a single direction.2.2.2 BILLET (REFORGING STOCK, REROLLING STOCK, or EXTRUSION STOCK)A solid metal product that is intended for subsequent hot working into finished or s
14、emi-finished products.2.2.3 COGNIZANT ENGINEERING ORGANIZATION (CEO)The engineering organization responsible for the design of the part, or the designee of this engineering organization.2.2.4 DIE FORGINGForging shaped by working stock in a closed die.2.2.5 DISTRIBUTORFor purposes of this standard, a

The same business operates as a “Producer”when it performs the functions of a “Producer.”2.2.6 DRAWN SHAPEShape produced by deformation of metal drawn through a die.2.2.7 EXTRUDED SHAPEShape produced by deformation of metal pressed through a die.2.2
16、.8 FORGINGProduct formed by heating and working stock between dies.2.2.9 GAUGEThe nominal thickness, diameter, hexagonal flat, or other applicable short transverse (ST) dimension of the material.2.2.10 HAND FORGING (aka, OPEN DIE FORGING)Forging shaped by working stock between open dies.2.2.11 INGOT
17、Cast metal intended and suitable for remelting or forming by hot or cold working.2.2.12 LONGITUDINAL (L)Parallel to the principal direction of grain flow in a worked metal.SAE INTERNATIONAL AS6279A Page 3 of 122.2.13 LONG-TRANSVERSE (LT)The direction of transverse grain orientation having the lesser
18、 amount of thermomechanical reduction (generally having the largest dimension, often called the “width”).2.2.14 MECHANICAL TUBEHeavy-walled typically cylindrical tube, intended primarily for the machining of circular rings, flanges, shafts, etc., having a wall thickness that is a substantial proport
19、ion of the outer diameter. Such tube is not normally used for the transmission of fluids, and parts made from it are usually machined all over. This product is sometimes known as “hollow bar.“2.2.15 METAL STOCKFor purposes of this standard, the term “metal stock” includes the following wrought produ
20、ct forms: bar, rod, wire, plate, sheet, strip, hand forgings, billet, extruded shapes, drawn shapes, and mechanical tube. It does not include castings, sintered powder metal parts, die forgings, seamless tubing, or welded tubing.2.2.16 PLATEDimensionally reduced during the final hot working operatio
21、n in the ST axis by rolling and finishing in accordance with standard industry practices to the producer-certified size. Cross-rolled plate is reduced in the ST direction by rolling in both the LT and L axes. Plate is further distinguished from sheet and other product forms by differences in thickne
22、ss and/or ratioof width to thickness; refer to ARP1917.2.2.17 PRODUCED SIZEThe nominal dimensions of the metal stock produced by mechanical working and finishing in accordance with industry standard practices.2.2.18 PRODUCERThe entity that takes responsibility for all processing and testing that res
23、ults in certification to the AMS material specification.2.2.19 PRODUCT FORMTerminology used to describe metal materials including, but not limited to: ingot, billet, forging stock, forging, bar, rod, wire, sheet, plate, strip, foil, casting, extrusion, and tubing.2.2.20 PURCHASERFor purposes of this
24、 standard, a Purchaser is a business that procures metal stock.2.2.21 ROLLEDMetal shaped by rolling on a mill.2.2.22 SHEET, STRIP, and FOILDimensionally reduced during the final hot working operation in the ST axis by rolling and finishing in accordance with standard industry practices to the produc
