SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers three types of a free-machining, corrosion-resistant steel in the form

6、 of bars, wire, forgings, and forging stock. 1.2 Application These products have been used typically for parts on which the amount of machining warrants use of a free-machining grade of steel requiring corrosion resistance similar to the 18-8 type steels but not subjected to temperatures exceeding 7

7、00 F (371 C) during fabrication or in service, but usage is not limited to such applications. 1.3 Classification The steels covered by this specification are classified as follows: Type 1: 18Cr - 9.0Ni - 0.28S Type 2: 18Cr - 9.0Ni - 0.14P - 0.28Se Type 3: 18Cr - 8.5Ni - 3.5Mn - 0.28S 1.3.1 Unless a

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition Shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in

15、 accordance with ASTM E 353, by spectrochemical methods, or by other analytical methods acceptable to purchaser. 18、gs Solution heat treated free from continuous carbide network and descaled. 3.2.1.1 All hexagons regardless of size, other bars 2.75 inches (69.8 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides, and wire shall be cold finished. 3.2.1.2 Bars, other than hexagons, over 2.75

19、inches (69.8 mm) in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides shall be hot finished or cold finished. 3.2.2 Forging Stock As ordered by the forging manufacturer. 3.3 Properties The product shall conform to the following requirements; hardness and tensile testing shall be performed in

20、 accordance with ASTM A 370: 3.3.1 Hardness 3.3.1.1 Bars larger than 0.500 inch (12.7 mm) round or least distance between parallel sides. 22、quivalent (See 8.2), or tensile strength not higher than 125 ksi (862 MPa). 3.3.1.3 Forgings Shall have hardness not higher than 187 HB, or equivalent (See 8.2). 3.4 Quality The product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and, consistent with the type of stee

23、l involved, free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product. 24、 rolled or cold drawn or ground, turned, or polished shall, after removal of the standard machining allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the ground, turned, or polished surface. 3.4.2 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which contain flash-

25、line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow. 3.5 Tolerances Bars and wire shall conform to all applicable requirements of AMS 2241. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The vendor of the product shall suppl

26、y all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests 4.2.1 Accepta

27、nce Tests Composition (3.1), hardness of bars larger than 0.500 inch (12.7 mm) round or least distance between parallel sides (3.3.1.1), hardness of forgings (3.3.1.2), hardness or tensile properties if wire or bars less than 0.500” (3.3.1.3), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be p

28、erformed on each heat or lot as applicable. 4.2.2 Periodic Tests Condition (3.2.1) and grain flow of die forgings (3.4.1) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be as follow

29、s: 4.3.1 Bars, Wire, and Forging Stock In accordance with AMS 2371. 4.3.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS 2374. 4.4 Reports The vendor of the tubing shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the following results of tests and relevant information: 4.4.1 For each heat Composition. 4.4.2 For e

32、ings are supplied, the size and melt source of stock used to make the forgings 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be as follows: 4.5.1 Bars, Wire, and Forging Stock In accordance with AMS 2371. 4.5.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS 2374. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Sizes Except when exact length

33、s or multiples of exact lengths are ordered, straight bars and wire will be acceptable in mill lengths of 6 to 20 feet (1.8 to 6.1 m) but not more than 10% of any shipment shall be supplied in lengths shorter than 10 feet (3 m). 5.2 Identification Shall be as follows: 5.2.1 Bars and Wire In accordan

34、ce with AMS 2806. 5.2.2 Forgings In accordance with AMS 2808. 5.2.3 Forging Stock As agreed upon by purchaser and vendor. 5.3 Packaging The product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling

35、, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A vendor shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.
