CLOTH, PARACHUTE, 240-PERMEABILITY; FOR USE WITH UNDERWATER ORDNANCE The Parachute Industry Association makes this document available for use by Industry and Government organizations that wish to apply this specification to their products. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope
3、. This specification covers parachute cloth having the weave pattern indicated in FIGURE 1 and an air permeability of 240 cubic feet per minute per square foot of cloth. It is intended for use with underwater ordnance. 1.2 Type and Class designation. The parachute cloth shall be of the following typ
4、es and classes, as specified (see 6.2). Type I - Nylon Type II - Saponified Acetate Class A - 4.0 ounce Class B - 8.0 ounce Class C - 10.0 ounce 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 General. Unless otherwise noted herein or in the contract i
17、n the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Materials. 3.1.1 T
18、ype I. The material used in Type I cloth shall be a high-tenacity multifilament nylon yarn of the proper size to meet the applicable requirements of this specification. 3.1.2 Type II. The material used in Type II cloth shall be a continuous multifilament saponified oriented cellulose acetate yarn of
19、 the proper size to meet the applicable requirements of this specification. 3.2 Finish. The finished cloth shall be smooth and even and shall not contain sizing, lubricating, or weighting materials. The pH of the water extract shall be in the range from 5.5 to no more than 9.0. 3.3 Color. The color
20、of the finished cloth and its referenced standard shall be as specified by the procuring activity (see 6.1). 3.3.1 Camouflaging. When camouflaging is specified (see 6.2), the pattern and colors shall be in exact accordance with samples or instructions supplied by the procuring activity. Colors shall
21、 show good fastness to salt water when tested as specified in TABLE II. 3.3.2 Coloring matter. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), no coloring matter of any Page 3 of 9 Copyright Protected: Do Not Copy!PIA-C-17208B sort shall be added to the yarn or cloth. 3.4 Permanence of set. The permanence of
22、set of the cloth shall be as specified in 4.4.1. 3.4.1 Air permeability. The air permeability shall be within the limits specified in TABLE I after testing as specified in TABLE II. 3.4.2 Thickness. The thickness of the cloth shall not increase more than 10 percent after testing as specified in TABL
23、E II. 3.4.3 Shrinkage. The cloth shrinkage shall not exceed 2 percent in the warp or 1 percent in the filling after testing as specified in TABLE II. TABLE I Physical requirements.
