18、ion FOREWORD These application and installation guidelines offer practical information on correct usage and industry-recommended practices for service-entrance cable installation in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). They address service masts, sunlight resistance, submerged cables,

19、 conduit markings, aerial installation, suitability for branch and feeder circuits, termination requirements in wet locations, and important changes to the 2011 NEC. These guidelines were developed by the National Electrical Manufacturers Associations (NEMA) Building Wire and Cable Section, which ha

20、s committed to periodically reviewing them for any revisions necessary to address changing conditions, product listing and installation requirements, and technical progress. 23、serve as a grounded conductor to be white or gray throughout its entire length and circumferenceor (on other than green insulation) to have three equally spaced white stripes the entire length of the conductor. If there are multiple grounded conductors, only one may use white stripes. The additional

24、 grounded conductors may use a raised tracer, or one or more non-continuous or continuous straight or helical stripes, in a contrasting color other than green. Grounded conductors may also be bare. 1.3 MARKING 1.3.1 General Markings for size or other information, whether on the jacket or the insulat

25、ion, are indicated every 600 mm (24 in.) along the length. The size and identification of copper-clad aluminum must be marked every 150 mm (6 in.). 1.3.2 Cable, Tag, or Package Each cable will have the marking “SE,” “Type SE,” “USE,” “Type USE,” “USE-2,” or “Type USE-2” to indicate the proper NEC Ty

26、pe designation. Manufacturer and factory identifiers, where applicable, also will appear on the finish jacket. Some markings are not permitted. Type USE and USE-2 cables cannot be marked “UF,” for example. 1.3.3 Circuit Conductors Although Type SE, USE, and USE-2 cables use common insulating materia

27、ls, conductors for Type SE cable cannot have a “USE” marking, since Type SE is not for underground use. 1.3.4 Grounding Conductors The outer surface of an insulated grounding conductor is green along its entire length and circumference. One or more yellow stripes may also be present. 1.4 CODES AND S

28、TANDARDS 1.4.1 National Electrical Code (NEC) Service-entrance cable that is designed, manufactured, and tested for use in accordance with NEC Article 338, Service-Entrance Cable, is used primarily for services. It is constructed of either single conductor or multi-conductor assemblies and is provid

29、ed with or without an overall covering. Two types of service-entrance cable are recognized by the NEC: RV 4-2012 Page 3 2013 National Electrical Manufacturers Association a) Type SE, which has a flame-retardant, moisture-resistant covering, and b) Type USE, which is identified for underground use. T

30、his covering is also moisture-resistant but is not required to be flame-retardant. 1.4.1.1 Uses Permitted Service-entrance cables for use as service-entrance conductors are installed in accordance with NEC Article 230. They are permitted for use as service conductors to supply a building or other st

31、ructure but cannot pass through the interior of another structure. Service-entrance cable also can be used for feeders and branch circuits and, depending on intended use, must adhere to different sections of the code for installation. 1.4.1.2 Use in Service Raceways When service-entrance cable is in

32、stalled in raceways, other types of conductors are not allowed to be installed in the same service raceway, except for grounding conductors and bonding jumpers or load management control conductors with overcurrent protection. 1.4.1.3 Related NEC Articles The following NEC articles also contain prov

43、ociation 1.4.2.1 UL Standards UL 854 is the standard for construction and performance requirements of service-entrance cable. Thermoplastic-insulated conductors that serve as components of service-entrance cable must comply with UL 83, Thermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables. Thermoset-insulated co

44、nductors that serve as components of service-entrance cable must comply with UL 44, Thermoset-Insulated Wires and Cables. 1.4.2.2 Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory Directories Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (such as UL, CSA, and Intertek) publish directories that contain useful in

45、formation on the products each organization lists, recognizes, and certifies. The directories are frequently used by installers and inspection authorities to better understand how to specify and install products in accordance with their listing and to demonstrate that a product is listed by a Nation

46、ally Recognized Testing Laboratory. These directories are helpful for understanding how products such as service-entrance cable are constructed and marked. They also provide information on special or optional ratings, as well as terminations. One UL directory, for example, addresses UL-approved meth

47、ods for maintaining the fire resistive rating on walls, floors, and ceilings for fire resistive ratedconstruction when cables must penetrate them and be fire-stopped. 49、ctories The following information is excerpted from the UL General Information for Electrical Equipment DirectoryWhite Book: GENERAL This category covers service-entrance cable designated Type SE and Type USE for use in accordance with Article 338 of ANSI/NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC). Service-entrance cable, rated 600 V, is Listed in sizes 14 AWG and larger for copper, and 12 AWG and larger for aluminum or copper-clad aluminum. The cable is designated as follows: Type SEIndicates cable for abovegro
