14、rom the top of the liquid, in the case of a single homogeneous liquid, or from the boundary plane between liquids in the case of two immiscible liquids. 3.3.2 Zndztctive float (tupe ZC/I).-This type makes utje of a float riding on a vertical rod or column, mounted in a tank. The column contains a ta

15、pered winding, the number of turns per unit length varying throughout the length, The float rides on the liquid to be measured and cuts the magnetic Aux line produced by the electrically energized coils in the vertical rod or column. The rending of level is obtniried by proper calibration of n meter connected to the alternnting current (R.C.) bridge circuit. 3.3.3 Cqwcitniice (type IC/Ci),.- This type makes use of a capacitance type unit mounted in a tank Containing a petroleum base liquid only and utilizes th

17、e principle that the cnpncitance of a condenser is pro- portional to the dielectric constant. The tank uni

18、t shall be mounted either vertically or inclined away from the vertical by nn amount that will not be deleterious to the satisfactory perforniance of the equipment, 3.3.4 Cap(icimce (tgpe XC/C2), - This type makes use of R cnptxitance type unit mounted in a tank containing two immiscible liquids one

19、 of which is a conducting medium usually water and the other a pctrolcum base liquid, and utilizes the principle that the capncitnnce of 8 condenser fe proportional to the aren of the plates. The circuitry of this type is such that the trink unit forms one plate of the condenser and the liquid forms

20、 the other plate. The varying height of the conduct

21、ing liquid provides the variation of plate size in terms of variation in liquid level. 3.3.5 Radioactive fiout (type IC/R).-This type makes use of a float containing a gamma ray source such as commercially available radium salt, the float riding on or in a vertical rod or column mounted in the tank

22、and with a gamma ray detector located at the top of the vertical rod or column to indicate the amount of the liquid to be measured. The float riding on the liquid will emit gamma rays which wil be picked up by the detector. This type of gage utilizes the principle that the intensity of gamma rays va

23、ries in inverse proportion to the square of the distance be- tween the float and the detector. 3.3.6 Lever niid flout tgpe (IC/FE).-This type makes uswof a float attached to a lever which in turn is attached to the edge of the tank. The lever actuates a mechanism, such ris a potentiometer, mounted i

24、n a liquicltight case within the tark and by proper circuitry to indicate at a remote station, the amount of liquid to be measured present in the tank. 3.3.7 Lever atid flout (type IC/FT),-This type shall consist of a fioat attached to a lever which in turn is attached to the top of the tank. The le

25、ver actuates a mechanism, such as a potentiometer, mounted in a liquid- tight case within the tank and by proper circuitry to indicate at a remote station, the amount of liquid to be measured present in the tank. 3.4 Component units.-The components of a tank level indicating system shall consist ees

26、entially of the following: (a) One or more tank units per tank (the number of tanks per vessel will be specified in the contract or order) as determined by the shape of the tanks to assure ac- curate indication. 1. 9999906 0329323 1 W (b) One indicator per tank locatedin a remote control station. 27、tive consitleration will be given to the use of one indicator and a selector switch or scanning switch in the case of multiple banks of tanks. In the latter case, means shall be provided to monitor the dr;iw-off tank of a bank at all times (see 3.4.2). (c) One set control equipment including power p

The equipment will be suhjectetl to exhaustive tests to show that no reasontible combination of possible casu- alties to the tank units or power supply to thcm will cause an explosive h;ix:ii.tl within a tank. Failure to conform to the specification reo;-iiremcnts for any test shall be counted as a defect, and the equipment shall be rejected. If the

43、 number of nonconforrning equipments in any sample exceeds the acceptance number for that sample, the lot represented by the sample shall be rejected. Rejected lots may be offered again for Government inspection tests provided all equipments in the lot have been retested by the contractor for the te

44、st (9) -causing rejection and ali noncompli- ance corrccted. 4.2.3.1.6 Acmptance, yroup C tests.-The results of each test shall be compared with specification requirements. In the event of failure to conform to this specification for any group C test, the contractor shall correct the cause of failur
